Open Game Thread: Game 80 - A's at New York (cont.)
A's up 4-0 going to the top of the 7th, thanks to some near-no-hit work by Haren Gaudin and HRs from Swisher Kendall, Cust Stewart, and Johnson ... wait. Too strikethrough-happy there. Johnson.

Don't look now, but
The race for ridiculously bad A's hitter looks to be a barn-burner this year!
anyone else see that
swish look to the heavens before that pitch? grandma helped with that one a little bit
Swisher redeems himself for a day. 6-zip.

HAH! There's something special
about beating up on the Stanks!

I disagree. It's great no matter what!

Who knows? Let's just win A game.

Swisher ALMOST hit that
But now...Our luck is turning...Seriously, I'm gunning for 7-2 going into the ASB, starting with today, then Haren coming up big tomorrow and a 5-2 homestand.
And boy do we need it!
Why not 20-0?
They've done it before...
so, if the A's go 12-4 ...
... will they no longer be the worst Oakland team since 1999?
As long as Kennedy is our #4,
But once we win a game, I'm ready for us to go 12-4 followed by another 12-4...H.O.P.E....
"Randy" was a figment of Cindi's imagination
What happened to that guy?
I must get the recipe
of the mood altering prescription you've obviously taken between last night and this morning. It sounds delicious.

The Vitamin C is because I think it's important to be healthy.
Just joined,
Didn't realize it was a morning game. Reviewing the box score and .... wow.
Mind boggling...
isn't it?
It's baseball. Anything can happen.
Anything, that is, except consistent sane balls-and-strikes calls by Angel Hernandez.
In other news....

Is that Stomper turned inside-out?

Wow, nice piece of hitting
In fairness to the h8ers,
but that's only 1.2 embrees
Yankee boos are nice to hear. I love it.

Ok good, Crosby still sucks--
Wow...
someone actually walking DJ to get to Crosby. If you were to tell me that this was going to happen I would have laughed at you. I'm still laughing, especially since it seemed to have worked.
would someone explain to me why
Crosby is still playing?
by china bob on Jun 30, 2007 12:13 PM PDT up reply actions
Because
(1) he has too much trade value to cut outright; but
(2) he doesn't have enough trade value to get something that would make a big improvement; and
(3) it's not worth making a trade for only a small improvement.
Or at least that's how I interpret what they keep telling me....
nice precis
I honestly do think that's Beane's thinking on the matter.
And I'm of the opinion that, as dismal as Crosby is, it's still a pretty steep dropoff from him to Scutaro.
Plus, there's the MSSE.

You're either for good behavior
What? You don't like the compulsory nature...
or the patriotism? Cause I do enjoy good behavior being encouraged during ballgames.
At Yankee Stadium...
...fans are prohibited from leaving their seats during the moment of silence. That's ridiculous.
As for good behavior, I've been to the Stadium dozens of times and I've never seen it.

Gaudin pitching well leaves us to wonder
about Harden's status for another day.
by ohtobe21likehuston on Jun 30, 2007 12:15 PM PDT reply actions
With Harden,
DJ IBB
Johnson kills on the road and in day games. Note to Geren if other teams walk Johnson to pitch to Crosby that is telling you something its called Crosby sucks!
Gaudin is also
great on the road and in day games.
(Oh, wait....)
Harden is warming up in the pen.
by ohtobe21likehuston on Jun 30, 2007 12:18 PM PDT reply actions
Not to worry...
I'm sure he will hurt himself before he can actually get in the game.
I just want him to start throwing right away
so that we can find out if he will be a part of the season or not. Either way... I'll adjust.
by ohtobe21likehuston on Jun 30, 2007 12:22 PM PDT up reply actions
lol...you're not serious are you?
I don't care give Gaudin the confidence of a
complete game shutout in NY.
I actually think if they can
Wait..."Must win"...<gets Casilla up>
At 96 pitches there is no guarantee that he would
finish the game. I like the idea of him going a little longer in a future start where he is actually needed.
by ohtobe21likehuston on Jun 30, 2007 12:24 PM PDT up reply actions
Untrue Athletic
well when Harden gets hurt before finishing this
game and we have to turn to the rest of the pen. You know just like me you will be hiding under the table going 7 runs...not enough....not enough....
All watching Harden pitch
QUIT telling the TRUTH. I'm sick of it.

is it sad
That when Harden pitches I expect our hippie looking trainer to run out to the mound.

Yeah, it is sort of like watching
a chaw chewing redneck describe his encounter with Bigfoot. Fascinating, but not to be taken to seriously.
Good call..

Radar Gun
Why no gun on Harden? Channel 36, are you awake? Hello?
by NewPosterMojo on Jun 30, 2007 12:35 PM PDT reply actions
they don't want
to stress his arm with all those waves and stuff
Well Korach says no in stadium gun...
Thanks for that info Ken.
But why does tv have their own gun? Done often.
by NewPosterMojo on Jun 30, 2007 12:38 PM PDT up reply actions
What? And run the risk of injuring
Rich with microwave radiation?
My guess is that Harden
An intelligent hypothesis.
I've seen enough.
Where is Jairo?
Interesting
Korach said there's no in stadium gun, and none showing up on tv.

mind you, I kind of like Fosse
But you mean kind of like how he mkes up his own rules about catching / base running? (Rose)
by NewPosterMojo on Jun 30, 2007 12:46 PM PDT up reply actions
the new york play by plays have their own gun..
they say.
they also mentioned that the pitch was up at 97..
but they have the speed gun on the new york feed
right after talking about how rich couldn't throw as hard anymore and should try to reinvent himself as a finesse pitcher.
Yep, Channel 36 sucks
Funny, their announcers are obviously beggin.

I assume a 30+ pitch inning
means that we won't see Harden in the 9th.

we're still up by 1.4 embrees
Not as nice as...
the one MaEl appeared to lob at the ump last night.
Speaking of Marshall,
Yeah, clearly unjustified paranoia on your part..
not since june 24
i doubt it's an owie, it's probably just that he hasn't been very effective recently.
Well that hurts.
June 24th vs. Mets. He has warmed up several
times over the past week, though.

I do believe Mr. Swisher used a word
that is inapropriate around young children and on TV...at least according to the FCC
Swisher said "regulation"?
That....or Hernandez's first and middle names are
F*&^% and You.
Bases empty, 7 run lead
Now is your time, Chavvy!
don't put so much pressure on him!!
now he's definitely not going to do anything.
Good point.
I also was running the microwave....sorry about that, Eric.
RUNNING THE MICROWAVE???
You like prawns?
Starring "The Crabber"
< Crosby's arms mutate, grow >
< Crosby starts standing even further off the plate >
why is zito in the all-star game commercials?
to up his Q rating
And/or just to piss off Jeff Pearlman.
It's a marketing measurement
of a celeb's name/face recognition and +/- favorability. Around here, for example, Mark Ellis would rate a 38, say, to Larry Davis' 0.1
by FreeSeatUpgrade on Jun 30, 2007 1:13 PM PDT up reply actions
Gulp. In what is sure to be an affront to
FSU's handle on his birthday, Fosse just announced that a SINGLE game ticket in the front row of the new Yankee stadium will be $2,500.00 dollars. And there is already a waiting list.
They need to fire their marketing department
obviously they could have raised that price quite a bit. <throws up>
That's a lot of money to pay
hey that's not fair
you also get to see bobby abreu and johnny damon.
Well, Giambi might limp out and sign
for you. Wait, he won't be around when the park opens. My bad.
Not that it matters
but please shut up, Glen Kuiper.
Yes!! I have an insatiable desire to hear the
sound of knuckles crashing into flesh....followed by the bleating of Kuiper asking Fosse "why Foss, why?"
only if we can have the same happen on the radio
side of things.
by ohtobe21likehuston on Jun 30, 2007 1:03 PM PDT up reply actions
