Open Thread: Game 2 - A's at Seattle (cont.)
The A's need to get their hitting shoes on, because a blip in the pitching and fielding has extended Seattle's lead to 4-1 after 5 innings.

One is better than none...
New thread mojo!
Home run Bradley! That ball was a shot!
at least milton brought his game to seattle
now if stewart and our dh would start hitting
Must be the new thread.
"This could be trouble....
...because it is -- a home run!"
That's a home run call? By a guy who gets paid to do that?
Great minds apparently...
...think alike.

Or at least we do
"This could be trouble...
...because it is!"
What a lame HR call from the M's booth.

We're already doing this in Game #2?
Maybe Piazza and Bradley
Can make up the Pert Plus dance.
Back to back!
please!
MILTON!!
LOVE YOU BABY!!!!
Good new thread mojo, Nico!
where should he be batting then?
if he ever starts having good at bats, which is a long shot, he would be our best slugger
Not enough

The lower the pitch
the wider this umps strike zone.
I'm trying to figure out if it's an hourglass or a trapezoid.
Another wretched K3 call
Brian Runge is not having
a good day behind the plate. Grrrr... We really let Washburn off the hook; he didn't pitch as well as 6 IP, 2 ER, but oh well.
of course he didnt
but luckily, he was facing the lack of our offense. for at least the first 15 innings of 2007 pretty much any pitcher could put up 6ip 2er against it.
maybe
but luckily we get to play 160 more games and im pretty sure that we will score more than 2 runs every 15 innings through most of that. i mean after all, stewart is gonna hit. kendall is gonna hit. mr dh is gonna hit.
Bradley gives me hope
for the offense. I just wish that other guys would get on base so his hits would count for something more. LETS GO A's!!!
Maybe the pitchers should just roll it up there
I'm pretty sure Runge would call 'em for strikes.
It's not a strict platoon
Geren said as much.
This is the kind of situation (with Kotsay) that Macha turned into a communication problem last year. I think I trust Geren to be clear with Booby and Buck ahead of time about what his plans are for situations like this.
4 ER in 5 IP off Blanton...
Sounds about what the better pitchers who are expected to start for A's have been doing. Must of been that extra hot dog he had prior to the game...
That actually makes a lot of sense
since he's had muscle problems on both sides back there.
It might have just been starting
last year, and thus not visible on MRI (I'm just guessing, I'm not a professional). I think everyone chalked it up to his screwed up spring.
And Loaiza did recover and dominate in the middle of the season.
I hope that kid was ok...
Bad News. Now we can try to get Kim???
by Charlie Brown on Apr 3, 2007 8:48 PM PDT up reply actions
Because he likes the way
his hair looks when he rounds third on his way to the plate on an RBI single.
Big test for Croz
And I consider that a reasonable result -- good swing, took the ball to RF.
Ellis is a good little spark plug. Good deal...

So far looks like early recall for Suzuki this
year.

MAEL!!!!
Good job kid!
If the A's tie it, you remove Blanton, and he
has a ND, not a loss.

The Duke, warming up...
At least, we may not give up any late inning runs.

Hey, maybe we will have the pitcher that wins 5-4
Let's go A's

Kendall! Wow!
What was that a 370 foot bomb? 4-4 tie.
Jason Kendall BOMB!!??!?
Are you kidding me?!?!
Kendall Bomb = Double
You have to see it graded on a curve.
What the hell was that?
WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
by Flyin As on Apr 3, 2007 8:50 PM PDT reply actions
home run kendall!!!
Sort of.
Double and RBI. That's like a home run only not so much.
it's a kendall home run
Does this mean that for the rest of the season...
....we'll score at least one more run than we scored in the previous inning?
We'll be the greatest hitting lineup of all time!
by GreenNGoldSooner on Apr 3, 2007 8:52 PM PDT reply actions
That's Blanton's run support.

kendall clearly brushed his teeth
with "the clear" before tonight's game.
Gameday Yahoo showing score 3-1 A's lead now
God Bless America?
Why? Is it Arbor Day or Secretary's Day or something? (bans self)
I want take me out to the ball game!!!
blanton has pitched a good game
coupld bad pitches, but if he throws like this all year we will be just fine. 0 walks. 7 k's. zito who?
<tear>
Quick hook! He has a quick hook!!!
4-4

Five A RENT A SPACE...
So thinking along with Geren,
either:
a. Duke was up when the A's were trailing 4-2 only in case they took the lead (seems unlikely)
b. Duke didn't feel good warming up, and the A's scrambled to get Calero up and ready
I think he was going to go more than 1 inning
with Duke, but when they tied he will save him for the 8th inning
by theblackpearl on Apr 3, 2007 8:59 PM PDT up reply actions
stand on the top step of the dugout

Milton is 4 for 6 in game with 2 runs and 2 RBI's
C'mon on Kiko!!!

during commercial breaks:
Galaga
Centipede
Tempest
Sinistar
Asteroids
Moon Lander
Dig Dug
or missing cammand
Scoring at home...
I give Crosby yet another error. Freakin' Crosby.
DAMMIT CROSBY!!!
Does anybody know what's up w/
Blanton? M's announcers think he was taken out for injury.
Kiko needs a big target
by FreeSeatUpgrade on Apr 3, 2007 9:01 PM PDT up reply actions
That was just getting Calero extra
time in the bullpen.
Why did it take managers so long
to start doing the post-commercial break pithing change? I don't remember it ever before a couple years ago.
by FreeSeatUpgrade on Apr 3, 2007 9:03 PM PDT up reply actions
LaRussa used to do it
He used the extra to pray that Caderet and Plunk would learn how to pitch before he put them in.
Nothing on FSNBA.

Nick Swisher, doin' it all
Check out Yahoo! Sports and their scoring summary!
This is their actual stuff I lifted via "copy and paste".
Hilarious. They have the score as "3-1 Oakland" by the way:
===========================================
Top 2nd: Oakland
- N. Swisher hit sacrifice fly to right, B. Kielty scored
Bot 2nd: Seattle
- N. Swisher homered to deep right, R. Ibanez scored
Bot 5th: Seattle
- N. Swisher doubled to right, J. Guillen scored
- N. Swisher singled to center, Y. Betancourt scored
Top 6th: Oakland
- N. Swisher homered to deep left
Nick is a force!

6-4 M's
Calero gave up a Two Run Shot
by Fort Knox Yellow on Apr 3, 2007 9:08 PM PDT up reply actions
thanks guys
Is it too early?
FIRE GEREN NOW!
fire him because calero was throwing bp?
i dont think anyone has ever been eliminated after 2 games.
Pretty predictable, though,
when a pitcher warms up that quickly. Wonder what happened in the bullpen.
Well, Duke's in now
Not that he's doing any better.
But this is the kind of bullpen move that people ripped Macha for in the past.
Well, there's something we don't know
It really makes no sense that Duke was up, then not in while Calero rushed to get ready (and Blanton left after 81 pitches), then Duke was in. I don't feel we know all there is to know about what happened. Or else Geren is...um, interesting.
As Maggie O'Hooligan once said...
"Yeah, well, tanks for nothing."

Blech
This is how we play against the Mariners?
It's early in the season, It's early in the season, It's early in the season, There's no place like home, It's early in the season.
It's early--
We've only had, like, 7 injuries so you know it's early.
If Billy Beane were truly a genius
He'd figure out a way to trade injuries.
"Yeah, you can have Blanton, but you have to take Rich Harden's back issues and Eric Chavez's forearm soreness too."

Welcome to 2007.

Not to pile on...Or to be myopic,
but the Freakin' LA Angels of Anaheim are kickin' some Texas Ranger ass!!
Maybe we can afford to spot them two games, but we may be wishing for those in September.
Why did Blanton come out?
FIRE GEREN NOW!

can we go back to spring training?
i think they forgot to pack our offense, defense and our bullpen. starting pitching was definatly packed at least.
Should have left Crosby at baggage :-)
I'm at emotional baggage,
carousel #5.
<cries>
<dies>
yea but on the bright side
he will be on the dl soon. hi marco
Gosh I hate this.
It is SO frustrating when you watch your team fight to catch up, they finally do, and in the next half inning the pitchers give it all away. At least give us an inning or two to enjoy the tie! ACK!

2 games...!
I hate game threads.
On the other hand...
The M's likely came into this series with a vendetta (and quit pissed off)...Last year, we beat them like they stole something. I would imagine that they were a little focused on some payback, especially IFO the home crowd in the season opening series.
Over 162? Well, it will likely be a little different.
Texas fighting back
I'm crossing my fingers
random obersvations
does geren look FAR too complacent?
is anyone else thinking ben grieve when watching bobby crosby?
that mike piazza looks like a 39 year old catcher?
that the announcers just finished saying how kielty's batting average was 100 points higher vs lefties than righties last year--and "that's lifetime too--69 points higher lifetime"--and travis buck sits against mateo?
that kendall, ellis, swisher and bradley really looki like they're into the game?
and that crosby, chavez, piazza, stewart look like they're completely uncomfortable?
whoa, morrow making his debut
hopefully we'll...
show we have the better rule V reliever this inning, heh...or at least spot Marshall a 5-run head start
he's not a rule V
he's the #V pick.
my bad
I scanned LL's end of the roster post, thought he was mentioned as a rule V
So is Rey Ordonez in there too as a defensive replacement? I think I got that one right.
I think the important question
Is if we win 82 games this year and everyone's depressed at the end of the season, is the gamethread bitching justified?
The world waits with abated breath to know
ZONIS! Seriously!
The game is NOT over yet!

just caught the 2-2 pitch...
highlight on BBTN, the pitch to Sexson right before he hit his HR...looked like it crossed the plate at the knees to me. Perfect location...Sexson's proven the past couple games that it's not wise to give him either 4 strikes or 4 outs.
