4-18-DLD - DLD = DL + DL - L =/

I doubt any of you fools have noticed, but the A's managed to win a game yesterday, doing something almost unheard of. They scored runs in the MIDDLE of the game, on a HOMERUN by BOBBY CROSBY and an RBI HIT by JASON KENDALL! The A's defeated the Angels 4-1, lead by Chad Gaudin.

Star-divide

As we're on the topic of the DL, on that front...

-Esteban Loaiza is still hurting.
-Mark Kotsay is still MIA.
-Dan Johnson is hitting and may get Rehab Starts next week.
-Rich Harden thinks he feels alright, and wants to stay in the rotation, but the A's may skip him or DL him anyways.
-Milton Bradley is still dead.
-Mark Ellis got a shot of Worcestershire sauce and is recovering from Pink Eye.

Game starts at 12:35 PM PST, so set your radios in your office to "quiet enough that the boss can't hear"... unless your boss is an A's fan, in which its most likely "take extended lunch break with boss to 'discuss business over lunch' but end up dinning at a Sports Bar with Extra Innings"

My dad called me last night

I haven't heard him this giddy about basketball since Run TMC.  He said it was the biggest basketball in recent Warrior history.  Given last night's events, I beg to differ: tonight's game will be the biggest.  This could be like Huddy defeating the Rangers on the last day of the season. (Except that I don't really care for basketball.  Or hockey.  But, remarkably, I've been sucked into the success of the Sharks, Warriors, and Sabres.)

Harden MRI Results good . . . I think

The results on an MRI of Harden's shoulder were "negative," according to the CC Times.

The title of the article freaked me out though: "Harden's MRI is Negative."  I know it's a term of art but come on, be a little sensitive here writers.

http://contracostatimes.com/athletic...

Also interesting were Curt Young's comments about not finding anything wrong: "It's surprising they didn't find anything, in general."

Why is this surprising?  Were you expecting a voodoo chicken bone in there Curt?  Or was Rich whining like a little B when he came out?  Or is his shoulder really in a lot of pain, with the A's lying to us fans again?  A bit disturbing to say the least.

Yeah

I'm really excited about them right now. No real superstars, and Miller isn't the type of goalie who will steal games on his own, but all four lines have great speed, and when they're on, no one can really match up against that. Unfortunately the only game I've gotten to see all of was on saturday, which was not their best effort. A Sabres-Sharks final would be especially nice.

the phillies

via rotoworld...

The Phillies have decided to make Brett Myers into a setup man to make room for Jon Lieber in the rotation. He'll work in the seventh and eighth, as well as close when Tom Gordon is not available.
Incredible. This is perhaps the biggest overreaction to a lousy start that we've ever witnessed. Myers earned the Opening Day start for the Phillies after back-to-back fine seasons and had a great spring. He was coming off back-to-back poor starts, but he had struck out 19 in 15 1/3 innings. Short of turning Ryan Howard into a shortstop and benching Jimmy Rollins, we can't think of anything else the Phillies could have done to better sabotage their chances for this year. Myers needs to be held on to in mixed leagues, as the Phillies might figure out in a couple of weeks just how bad of an idea this is.

I can't believe this move for so many reasons. I'm so glad the phils are only my 2nd favorite team...

Sanjaya and the Sudanese goat

Something's fishy with these popularity contests.  I linked the "Man forced to marry goat he violated" in the DLD last week; you all laughed at me for linking a story from last November.

For some reason, even today this goat story is still listed on the BBC front page as #2 on their most e-mailed stories.

This is clearly evidence of a nefarious plot of global proportions.  My theories are that it's either somehow linked to the inexplicable Sanjaya phenomenon, or it's a hidden message to underground terrorists.  And Friday is 4/20.

Damn

I couldn't think of funny stuff at a time like that. That is impressive. (I'm pretty sure we agreed it was your job to set up the site).

Harden update:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/articl...

Even so, the fact that Harden will get eight full days off between starts shows that there is concern about the right-hander. An MRI revealed no structural damage in the shoulder but according to assistant GM David Forst, it did indicate that there is some irritation in the shoulder capsule. The extra days will allow that to die down.

insult to injury

mariners lose 5-4.  the final out:

  • J. Vidro singled to right, J. Lopez scored, A. Beltre out at home

your 2007 oakland athletics are now in first place.
