4-18-DLD - DLD = DL + DL - L =/
I doubt any of you fools have noticed, but the A's managed to win a game yesterday, doing something almost unheard of. They scored runs in the MIDDLE of the game, on a HOMERUN by BOBBY CROSBY and an RBI HIT by JASON KENDALL! The A's defeated the Angels 4-1, lead by Chad Gaudin.
As we're on the topic of the DL, on that front...
-Esteban Loaiza is still hurting.
-Mark Kotsay is still MIA.
-Dan Johnson is hitting and may get Rehab Starts next week.
-Rich Harden thinks he feels alright, and wants to stay in the rotation, but the A's may skip him or DL him anyways.
-Milton Bradley is still dead.
-Mark Ellis got a shot of Worcestershire sauce and is recovering from Pink Eye.
Game starts at 12:35 PM PST, so set your radios in your office to "quiet enough that the boss can't hear"... unless your boss is an A's fan, in which its most likely "take extended lunch break with boss to 'discuss business over lunch' but end up dinning at a Sports Bar with Extra Innings"

Headphones, baby.
I have to use them every day anyway just so I can halfway-concentrate.
I can see how the first
helps you concentrate, but the second? Also, don't your coworkers find a baby on your head to be kind of weird?
LOL
I think my coworkers find me to be kind of weird anyway. I also practically break my neck every time I'm listening to a game with headphones through my work computer -- since what I'm usually listening to is an iPod in my pocket, which obviously goes with me when I have to leave my cube. Trying to walk away while listening to a game, though... computer can't go with me. GOTTA.TAKE.HEADPHONES.OFF.
I cannot tell you
how many times I stand up and pull my XM and antenna with me. It wouldnt be so bad if the cords didnt take my printer and lamp with them. My roommates don't even ask anymore when they hear me start swearing over the crash.
Warriors!
My dad called me last night
I haven't heard him this giddy about basketball since Run TMC. He said it was the biggest basketball in recent Warrior history. Given last night's events, I beg to differ: tonight's game will be the biggest. This could be like Huddy defeating the Rangers on the last day of the season. (Except that I don't really care for basketball. Or hockey. But, remarkably, I've been sucked into the success of the Sharks, Warriors, and Sabres.)
Sometime you're the sucker...
sometimes you're the suckee.
{Checks Milano subthread}
I have no problem admitting I'm a fair-weather fan when it comes to other sports.
why must the office plan parties during A's games
dude, someone should've checked the schedule or something.....sheesh......
When I'm the boss, I'll plan all meetings to be prior to games with a fixed end time so that we can then all retreat to the staff lounge (which will be nicely equipped with a big screen tv and beer fridge) to discuss. Interested? Send resumes and financial donations my way....
Why is AP convinced
that the A's lost the series at LAAAAAAA 1-2 ? I've seen it reported in numerous game recaps and previews. Is it really that hard to get it right this early in the season ?

Harden MRI Results good . . . I think
The results on an MRI of Harden's shoulder were "negative," according to the CC Times.
The title of the article freaked me out though: "Harden's MRI is Negative." I know it's a term of art but come on, be a little sensitive here writers.
http://contracostatimes.com/athletic...
Also interesting were Curt Young's comments about not finding anything wrong: "It's surprising they didn't find anything, in general."
Why is this surprising? Were you expecting a voodoo chicken bone in there Curt? Or was Rich whining like a little B when he came out? Or is his shoulder really in a lot of pain, with the A's lying to us fans again? A bit disturbing to say the least.
i think CY might have meant
it was surprising because Harden experienced and expressed discomfort but they didn't really find anything to explain it.

Apparently that thread is really about drug use
and includes this incredible post by Deanna. (submitted without comment)
Are you following the Sabres again this year?
My understanding is that this is one of the most successful teams in franchise history.
Yeah
I'm really excited about them right now. No real superstars, and Miller isn't the type of goalie who will steal games on his own, but all four lines have great speed, and when they're on, no one can really match up against that. Unfortunately the only game I've gotten to see all of was on saturday, which was not their best effort. A Sabres-Sharks final would be especially nice.
Miller=Lackey
why are you folks talking about the sabres?
and where is CTM?
But the hands-down winner
is the beer thread, if only for CoachOwens.
We don't really have anyone comparable here. What's up with that ? How come the youth of Oakland isn't coming here to find role models ?

OT: No text message recruiting
High school recruiting case heard at High Court
OMG WTF! WTBD? WWJD?
The High court
Speaking of the high court, when are they going to rule on the "Bong hits 4 Jesus" case?
Should be soon
Those oral arguments totally got out of hand, but were kind of fun.
That case spawned
an abominable number of stupid, pun-ridden articles. I hope they forget to issue a ruling.
Example: Read at own risk; not enjoyable
missouri isn't hell?
You're going to save me a shady seat, right?
MArk Ellis only ate raw pork twice last year...

How do you forget to cook a pig?
How does the pig forget he isn't cooked?
Has anyone seen this Ferrell video?
Pop culture has probably already moved it to the "dead beat" area.

I like her already
"The Angels billboards all over Los Angeles -- and particularly the one of Bartolo Colon on Olympic Blvd (which is on the way to Dodger Stadium I might add) -- freaking drive me crazy (am I alone on this?)!!! They should put that billboard on the 15-day DL."
No, they're at the annual
meeting of "People who are still famous for no apparent reason."
there is too a reason for Santa being famous
Because he's fat old man who spends an
unusal amount of time with children? I'm the Philadelphians: I'd boo him, too.

the phillies
via rotoworld...
The Phillies have decided to make Brett Myers into a setup man to make room for Jon Lieber in the rotation. He'll work in the seventh and eighth, as well as close when Tom Gordon is not available.
Incredible. This is perhaps the biggest overreaction to a lousy start that we've ever witnessed. Myers earned the Opening Day start for the Phillies after back-to-back fine seasons and had a great spring. He was coming off back-to-back poor starts, but he had struck out 19 in 15 1/3 innings. Short of turning Ryan Howard into a shortstop and benching Jimmy Rollins, we can't think of anything else the Phillies could have done to better sabotage their chances for this year. Myers needs to be held on to in mixed leagues, as the Phillies might figure out in a couple of weeks just how bad of an idea this is.
I can't believe this move for so many reasons. I'm so glad the phils are only my 2nd favorite team...
wow, that is crazy
we should try trading for him
all-star week interns wanted

someone take this job
and sabotage the giants organization from the inside, worse than sabean is already doing.
Sanjaya and the Sudanese goat
Something's fishy with these popularity contests. I linked the "Man forced to marry goat he violated" in the DLD last week; you all laughed at me for linking a story from last November.
For some reason, even today this goat story is still listed on the BBC front page as #2 on their most e-mailed stories.
This is clearly evidence of a nefarious plot of global proportions. My theories are that it's either somehow linked to the inexplicable Sanjaya phenomenon, or it's a hidden message to underground terrorists. And Friday is 4/20.

Italiano pitching today for Kane County
If anyone on this site sees this after watching that game, I would love to hear your observations on his pitching. I'm pretty fired up to see his name in a box score.
Sucks to be me
I have no sound card on my computer at work. Larry Cobb is back today as well, I believe he is a favorite of HollywoodOz or grover.

Not sure
I've been meaning to get around to demanding a new computer, it sucks during day games when I can't listen to A's games.

I hear he throws a spicy meatball!
MAMA MIA'!
Italiano pitched 3 innings
He wasn't sharp but that's to be expected. Also of note, Larry Cobb made his first game appearance and has gone 2-3.
Dontrelle Willis having a rough start
but the numerology has a certain elegance:
6 outs, 5 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned, 2 walks, 1 strikeout, 0 homers

Does anybody know the date
of the Jason Kendall face-block game in Texas a couple of years ago?
I'm looking for the archived clip, but can't remember the date. The AN search engine doesn't like me, but I know that one of you guys will remember.
Micah Bowie sighting.
Got Jimmy Rollins to GIDP in the seventh. Bowie's pitching for the Nationals.
...and Buehrle finishes off the no-hitter.
Only one walk, too - a walk to Sammy Sosa, who was subsequently picked off. He faced the minimum.
is that why
sosa is on yahoo's mlb page today?
What a night in the AL West, Texas gets no hit,
and King Felix gets hit up for 2 runs in the 1st and leaves with an unknown injury.
also, the angels have lost 6 in a row
whoa, king felix out of the game after 1/3 inning
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore...
any news on this?
lookout landing:
"First inning update: Felix yanked after four batters due to injury. Velocity was fine, command wasn't. Didn't seem to have a limp walking off the field. Blowers is guessing a groin issue, as he was seen stretching his leg."
http://www.lookoutlanding.com/story/...
Hope that's all it is
As long as they pulled him before he altered his motion and possibly stressed his arm, I imagine they can just rest him until his groin is feeling better.
No, not that way.
Reading that game thread
is worse than AN's reaction to Harden. Poor Mariners. Two comments really worried me before Felix called for the trainers:
I'd love to know what that straight 88mph nothing pitch that Felix just threw was.
Wow, he isn't even close to the zone.
Bad command, reduced velocity...I really hope this isn't an elbow injury.
Elbow tightness
yikes
that's a bummer
on a more positive note, the giants are already down 4-1. former a's ace randy keisler is pitching in carpenter's place.
no, it's dave corcoran

"Tonight - I’m kind of worried, to be honest."
Okay, that is NOT me

Warriors up, 41-26 after 1
41 points in one quarter? Who are they starting tonight, Lever, Vandeweghe, English, Hanzlic and Issel?
No real need. They are up by 15 at end of 1st
quarter. I am more interested in the Kings/Lakers game. If the Lakers lose the Warriors are actually in 7th place.

and that's bad, right?
i know the warriors are 3-0 against the mavs this year, how are they against the suns?
i'm sure the nba is hoping for nelly v mavs and kobe v suns.
W's 1-3 vs Phoenix this year
One blowout loss in Phoenix, the rest close, and the most recent game was a Warrior win in Oakland March 29. It feels like they'd have a fighting chance against the Mavs, but little hope against the Suns...Nash+Stodamire =3 and out, seems to me. Though WTF do I know? I'm more excited about the Sharks.

i'm hoping it's the mavs
just so the warriors fans won't whine about how they would have beaten the mavs for the next 20 years.
i'm kind of excited about the oakland a's.

i just root against the lakers.

Harden update:
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/articl...
Even so, the fact that Harden will get eight full days off between starts shows that there is concern about the right-hander. An MRI revealed no structural damage in the shoulder but according to assistant GM David Forst, it did indicate that there is some irritation in the shoulder capsule. The extra days will allow that to die down.
news flash: giants walk in a run
insult to injury
mariners lose 5-4. the final out:
- J. Vidro singled to right, J. Lopez scored, A. Beltre out at home
your 2007 oakland athletics are now in first place.
that was crazy
molina dropped the ball, if pujols hadn't hesitated, he would have been safe. still 5-5 in the 12th.
i'm flipping to the game during lost commercial breaks and fortunately i got to see it.
