Got to be done....DLD 2/3/07

Well I don't have much as far as links go, but that dosent matter right? Its the fact that the DLD mearly exists is enough, right? Well I saw part of the carabien world series last night on MLB.com and Ol Ruby Durazo has really been tearing the leather off the ball.http://oakland.athletics.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070202&content_id=1792889&vkey=news_ oak&fext=.jsp&c_id=oak
Other than that, may your evenings be well, May the Angels go to hell. Alright everyone stay Swell

Durazo and first base
Does anyone know how much, if at all, Durazo played first base during winter ball?

From what Urban said, and from common sense, his chances of making the roster depend heavily on whether he can prove that he is capable of handling 1B regularly. It's strange that no one seems to have reported on how that part of winter ball went. We know that if he's healthy he can hit, and he's clearly healthy hitting-wise.

by matthias on Feb 3, 2007 8:29 PM PST reply actions

No but in his previous A's stint it was
obvious the foul areas and his footwork were not a good match for the coliseum.

Before the hand operation he was a 900 to 950 OPS for the A's - Frankesque power was the potential.

With that OPS you just play him at DH and forget about it.

DJ or Swisher at 1B is good enough.

by A s Eh on Feb 3, 2007 10:01 PM PST up reply actions

Wash was of the opinion
that Durazo could play a decent 1B if he worked at it. However, he had been acquired by Beane from Arizona strictly to DH, and unfortunately didn't work at making 1B an option.

He's a couple of years older now...I haven't seen any indication that he played 1B in winter ball either.

by OaklandSi on Feb 4, 2007 12:42 PM PST up reply actions

It seems he would have to vary his training
drastically - the image of that semi rounding the bases is a hard one to shake.

Kielty's replacement in '08?
OF Richie Robnett -- Robnett played in four games for the Desert Dogs but made the most of his time, going 6-for-14 with a homer, two doubles, two triples and five RBIs.

by A s Eh on Feb 3, 2007 9:42 PM PST reply actions

I would love Robnett to make it
Everything I've read about RR is that he has enormous power potential.  A young guy with real power has been missing from our club for a while.  Hopefully Swish can show that he can be one of those guys and R^2 can soon join him.

Marco!
INF Marco Scutaro -- Not only did Scutaro lead the VWL in batting (.368) and on-base percentage (.464) during the regular season, he finished fourth in slugging percentage (.487). He kept up that strong performance in the playoffs by hitting .333 with two home runs and five RBIs in 60 at-bats for the Leones del Caracas.

...This guy loves baseball!

by A s Eh on Feb 3, 2007 9:44 PM PST reply actions

An amazing season for Marco,
I am curious as to why Venezuela didn't include him in the WS run?  Maybe it's to close to Spring training and he declined to participate.  Curious.

The teams in the Caribbean Series aren't
all star teams. They're the champions of each of the countries' final series. I.e., the Cardinals would be the United States' team, not the NL all stars.

And Marco played on a team that got beat.

there are a ton of former A's
playing in it. Just last night I saw Tejeada was playing for Dominica republic. Hiram Bochechicu was playing for Puerto rico. Ramon Hernandez was playing first base for Venezula. And of chours Ruby Durazo was playing for Mexico

it's already Venezuela 3 Mexico 0, and Venezuela's still batting.

Lehr didn't even make it through the first inning. The game is now in the third, Venezuela leading 7-0 (scored all its runs in that first inning).

Durazo has no hits at all in the series so far.

on a positive note
Durazo hit a ground rule double (his first hit of the series) and scored Mexico's only run of this game so far.

by OaklandSi on Feb 4, 2007 2:05 PM PST up reply actions

he's now scored 2 of Mexico's
3 runs. first time doubled to get on base, second time hit by pitch (whatever works!)

Mexico down 8-3 but trying to make a game of it.

by OaklandSi on Feb 4, 2007 2:48 PM PST up reply actions

Mexico loaded the bases
with one out in the top of the sixth but couldn't take advantage of it. Going to the bottom of the sixth they were down 8-3 --- then Venezuela scores 5 -- now VEN 13 Mexico 3.

I love the Bears +7
This line seems out of proportion with how good the Bears D has been all year, and how mediocre the Colts D is versus the run.

I also like a couple of Field bets...first scoring play of game to be Other Bears TD (ie not pass or run from scrimage) at +1400, and Field for first player to score a TD +760.

But you skipped the most important prop bet out there:  Billy Joel under 1 min 42 sec on the National Anthem (-160).
