Around SBN: Are The Orioles Bad Or Unlucky With Their Young Pitching?

Once AGAIN the Mojo flows!!!

Last night was a night that showed me, once again, just how powerful the collective conciousness is.

The whole stadium was cheering for Chavy's ball to clear the fence in center and when it did we celebrated for a split second, only to be brought down by a fantastic play by Jr.

The wind was out of our sails a bit and then 3 innings later the team was down by 4 runs to the Hungry team from Texas.

I'd been getting an adult soda and hot dog when those runs were scored and did not make it back to my seat until the top of the 4th when Saarloos was called in.

The place was a bit on edge and the drums were quiet.

This was a point where I decided to not let the current situation dictate my passion.

I turned to Duke and started to play, softer, then harder and it was A-Mazing to witness the energy starting to come back to the fans around us.

It was an energy of, "We're not out of this, we can get these guys!!!".

And wouldn't you know it, strikeout - double play, the A's are batting.

Once again I looked to Duke and called for some rally cap mojo, which is an oddity as early as the 4th...I just felt it, the mojo that is...

We stood and played for the beginning of the inning and the energy began to swell as one by one the first two batters reached base.

By the time Swisher got up, "Let's Go Oakland" was RACING through the Net.

You could feel and see the energy as waves of fans stood and cheered for our team...You'd have thought it was the 9th inning of a playoff game!!!

Then BOOM!!!!! The ball soared out of the field and the place completely errupted!!!

We did not stop there as we continued pounding and leaping...then...BOOM!!!! On the very next pitch, Jay Payton left the yard!!!

It was back, the Oaktown Mojo, and I knew we were going to win!!! Even when Huston got into a dicey situation in the 9th I knew we would win!!!

Let's Go Oakland!!!!

I came into work today at 7AM so that I can be at the game today, I cannot wait to chant, "Zito!!!Zito!!!"

By the way...Where's my broom???

Mad love
I was watching the game on TV and said to Mrs As, "The left-field bleachers were TOTALLY responsible for the Swisher home run."

Again, you guys rock.

by LoveDemAs on Aug 9, 2006 9:09 AM PDT reply actions

I was there too...
I was sitting in section 109 and I kept thinking to myself "They are probably having even way more fun in the bleachers"!  I wish they could mic you guys up so we could hear you really loudly throughout the entire coliseum.  I did hear you though.  You guys are awesome!

by 30something on Aug 9, 2006 9:20 AM PDT reply actions

a bunch of kids at the back rows of
226 and adjoining sections were also starting up "Let's go Oakland" chants, getting the rest of the people in the section involved.

So, props to them as well...

by OaklandSi on Aug 9, 2006 9:44 AM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, we heard them:
Once it starts on it's own we try and join in with the beat. A few times that section started and we joined in.

That interesting dynamic of delayed sound that FSU pointed out yesterday makes it really hard once everyone joins in. You really have to just concentrate on the chants around you...

I was listening on the radio
and the chants were coming in loud and clear. Rock on A's fans, rock on. :)

I was sitting in the rows below the radio broad-
casters and I was screaming so loud I can barely talk today! Go A's!!!

I'm no Sherlock Holmes
But I saw a guy wearing a Saint jersey w/ bongos around his neck going into the game. I'm guessing that's you.  I was going to come introduce myself, but I was in the middle of shotgunning a beer before I could go in....keep up the good work, dude.
I'll try not to swear.

Jerry Crasnick Question On ESPN
I just that the precursor to this question was funny and didn't know where I should place it.

Jerry, I know this isn't a question about a NY team..but are the A's in the process of locking up the West...finally?

JERRY CRASNICK
Brad,The A's have survived despite some pronounced offensive woes this season, and you get the feeling they're about to assert themselves. They have a ways to go, but with their recent play and Colon's injury in Anaheim, they have a leg up. I'm not ready to count out the Angels yet, though.

This is on there SportsNation chat.

Here is what some fans from other teams think:
Mariners:

The drumming in Oakland is easily the #2 most annoying thing that goes on at a stadium in all of baseball.

It's like they put a field mic under the drummers so that people watching the freaking game can't even watch it in peace.

#1 is that retarded "DAY-O!!" thing in Yankee Stadium.

ha ha ha
cheering your team on is more annoying than things that have no connection to the game, and in fact may distract during intense moments? ...not mentioning anything in particular of course...;-)

by OaklandSi on Aug 9, 2006 10:24 AM PDT up reply actions

Hmm...
I would have said #1 was playing "Who Let the Dogs Out?" on the PA, but I'm just an A's fan, so what the h*** do I know?

Keep on drumming!

by Flyin As on Aug 9, 2006 10:24 AM PDT up reply actions

#1 is definintely the wave
especially when clueless idiots try to start it when it would actually hinder your team.

LOL
I was so proud of 214 & 215 last night for killing the wave three times, until the people in 206 who kept trying to get it started just gave up...

Message from France:
"i'd like to pass a tribute to you guys man.At 4-0 i thought the crowd would be dead but no you guys were still there, and i will remember the moment where swisher came up forever ,you see we were down it was like 5AM i had every reason to give up get some sleep, but no,whatever it was,i felt it,even though i'm miles and miles away, all thanks to you guys i said to myself "if you go to sleep you're going to miss something special" the fact they kept showing all of you hard at work during the swisher AB made me say " look at these guys if they're not giving up,why should you?"and then it happened.
Thanks for not only making going to the NET a unique experience, but also watching games at the NET a unique experience, you might even be contributing to making a great homefield advantage.

So thanks again man and whenever i go to the NET i'll be sure to drop by and give a HUGE thankyou"

LF magic
I finally made it to a game last night, and of course the place my friends and I parked ourselves was 2 rows back from the drummers.  We started going crazy with the high fives and yelling when we lost sight of Chavey's near homerun, only to be disappointed and feel a little foolish when it turned out to be caught.

When Swish got up, and the drums started going, then the whistle guy to get everyone else to stand up, you could feel the energy.  I swear that we willed that ball out of the park.  I've never felt anything like that before, to feel as if we directly helped that home run happen by our collective enthusiasm.

It ranks there with Hatteberg's HR to win game 20, and Tejada's shot up the center earlier in the streak when the the outfield was pulled in for the win in the 9th, for games I have been there for.

Saint, and Duke, the rest of the LF bleachers, you guys all make coming to the games an incredible experience.  Thanks for all you do in helping channel the Oaktown Mojo

behind you
We were behind you, and a few seats closer to the foul pole, I was next to ZeroIndulgence.  Lots of standing up and yelling until we lost our voices.  Need to get back some vocal endurance...

No better place...
There is absolutely no better place to watch a game than out with you guys.  It was great to see ya still out there banging away saint (I was surprised you remembered me from last season, lol).  I haven't been posting as much this season as I did last, but It's always good to see the best baseball fans in the world are still keepin it real for our boys in the green and gold.  I'll see you all out there much more the rest of this season!

yo saint!
i'm back in the bay after my year in estonia and looking forward to coming out and tailgating/checkin out the game with all you guys sometime soon.

i was there last night in the 5th row behind home (a friend with ridiculous tickets got us there for free, thank you!), and i could feel the energy pulsating from the left field bleachers.  how sick were the back-to-back homers?!  Oh man i was going crazy.

but while Swish and JayPay were great, the MVP of the game I'd say was Saarloos-- simply stated, he was amazing; we wouldn't have stood a chance without him.

So, I'll be at the game today, so maybe I'll come say whats up.  If not today, then sometime very soon- you and Duke rock out there and I've seen you on TV a few times.  Same with other identifiable ANers, like JLaff.  In any case, go A's!

I left my
seat when the homers were hit to see if I could get tickets for todays game because those few innings were killing me and then swish and payton tie up the game.Even though I was a little upset about not being in my seat, I was just happy to hear the roar of the crowd. Great game last night!
Go A's!

i've been to this year. So exciting. The back to backs were so electric. Awesome game.

A's TV guys wonder about you
During the broadcast yesterday, maybe 2nd inning or so, you guys were on the FSN broadcast.  Kuiper wondered what you did when you weren't at A's games, Fosse imagined you spent all your offseason time practicing, and Kuiper opined that you hit spring training already at the top of your game.

I might've got some of that wrong, I was...uh...unfocused at the time.
But they did talk about ya.

Among all the great things you do, very high up on the list is keeping the beat alive even when the team is down.  Major props to the LF Bleacher Fife and Drum Corps!
