What Goes Up.... Must Come Down...
Spinning Wheel.....
Hey, I like being a prophet but really anyone could and should have seen this.
Think of just the last two games---
big hits from
Jay Pay
Kielty
Kendall
Kotsay and...
DJ-- who is a veritable house on fire.
The point being that most of these guys had subpar beginnings... and were going to get better.
And now they are.... and now we have the makings of a damn good offense. And bradley getting en fuego-- which I predict will begin against his former team tomorrow-- is the last part of the puzzle.
Looking ahead--
1 I've been defending him, but Macha gave Scoot a lot of rope today in the leadoff spot, and I think the 0-5 may have hung him. Let's try Rouse at least once this weekend and see what happens;
- The basic lineup for next week against RHP and with the pitcher should be:
- Kotsay
- Swish
- Chavy
- DJ
- Crosby
- Bradley/Payton
- Kendall
- Whoever is playing 2B
- Pitcher

What goes down
I'd like to think thats what has happened.
of course
Were you thinking of Loaiza...
OK
How do you like this year's depth...
The issue of depth has been in full evidence with our 8 trips to the DL thus far, the question remains if our team will have that burned out look come late September. I suspect they'll have a little more juice this time around.
There is more depth
Happy Birthday!
thanks, Sharon!

Happy Birthday Ohad!
Mediocre hitters??
Swish is better than that
Chavy isbetter than that
Thomas is better than that
Ellis was better than that last year
Crosby could be better than that
Kotsay, Kendall, Kielty and Payton are basically mediocre.
But 4 mediocres and 5 goods make for a good offense.
We Can't assume the roster to be ...
Players such as Payton usually so well in the summer but cool off by september. Thomas and Chavy are concerning based on their current injuries and we don't know how healthy and productive they'll be but they are vulnerable and may well give mediocre performances in sept.
If we have to rely on Perez, Scutaro and Kielty then mediocre is the best we can hope for. I don't expect much from Kotsay and Kendall at year's end.
The pitching staff's health and effectiveness will make the difference. The offense remains a question mark but if Johnson can sustain any stamina in sept (c/w last year) and Swish, Bradley, Crosby, Ellis and Thomas are healthy then we have a good chance of remaining strong.
Giles is solid but he (Like Kots and Kendall) would be learning a new league and is he superior to Ellis? THat's debatable
Here is what i think
Then there are questions:
Crosby and Johnson will get hot (Johnson already is). But will they stay hot, or go back down come September (like last year).
Kotsay, Kielty, Payton and Kendall we agree on.
That leaves Ellis who is a tossup. Is he Ellis 2005 or Ellis 2004. Somewhere in between is the likely answer.
4 starters are good/great hitters. 2 starters are hot and cold (DJ, BoCro), 2 are average/mediocre (Kendall/Kotsay), and 1 is a Q (Ellis).
Surely what we are seeing shows us that the hot and cold hitters are getting hot, and the mediocre hitters (and the bench players) are getting hot, which leads us to this win streak. Again, i question whether the "must come down" part of "what goes up... must come down" will be in September.
And lets not forget
Because limping through the season but not being able to hit with authority shouldn't be an option.

Yes, exactly ...
Spinning must keep going round ...
Ride a painted pony ...
Let the spinning wheel spin ...
umm, Devo ...
Right, I was going somwhere with this.
That's a relief.
{glares at self}
When the team is going bad -- it's almost never going to stay that bad.
At the same time, when the team is going good -- it's almost never going to stay that good.
Well you're a downer.
I hate to be, I'm really an optimist at heart, but that's the simple reality. It makes no sense to prognosticate from the extremes. 'We're going great, we're untouchable!' ... 'the season's over, trade everyone!' ... nope and nope ... as with most things, the reality will almost certainly be somewhere in the middle.
Yes, yes...
Loazia is back and doing reasonably well..
Duke about to come back...
Street lights out for 3 weeks now after a series of shaky appearances...
Bradley back-- and i think his hitting stroke will return soon..
And the news on Ellis and harden appears reasonably good.
riiiiiiight ...
and then then next part of the song is ...
as opposed to your remix:
What goes up
must eventually result in
the team getting healthy
and staying that way for the rest of the season
Go ahead...
I think Beane produced a deep team.
For a few weeks the injuries were so bad that they overwhelnmed the depth, particularly in the bullpen.
But they are getting more managable...
and this was going to be a .600 team so noww they are.
Let me ask you a question, devo?
Without any caveats about injuries, how many do you think this team will win this year?
I said 97 at the beginning of the year, though I felt that 100+ was possible,
I'll go out on the proverbial limb and predict 93 wins.
How about you??
Well, lets do some figerin'
Going in, I predicted the team would win ~95 games.
The team stands at 35-31, leaving 96 games to go.
Without Harden, I'd say this is about a 92-93 (~.570) win team, so I predict they'll play roughly .570 baseball from here on out, which would mean about 55-41, leaving the team at 90-72.
With Harden I think this is a 96-97 (~.595) win team, so I'll predict that they finish 57-39, leaving them at 92-70.
For a second I thought you had said
Makes sense, coming from someone who
You know
Gives a whole new meaning to the term...
Bradley
I hope so. He's a wasted bat when he's in

Texas down 5=0
And I hope you still are by the end of the year

Okay, we now have a seven game winning streak
Where does that leave us? Four games over .500, which looking at the "big picture" is probably the best description of this team
In short, "Padre Contention".
The true test of this team is how they respond when winning streaks end. If they lose one or two before resuming winning ways, then we may be on to something. But if we follow up an eight or nine game run with a six or seven game freefall, then we're still living dangerously and shouldn't be dreaming of the post-season
