Open Thread: Game 26 - A's at Anaheim (cont.)

A's up 3-1 thanks to Ballsy and Chavy.

Brad's done a nice job out of the pen today so far.  I imagine the team will soon go to the pen though just because Halsey isn't stretched out to start.

LET'S GO OAK-LAND!!!!!!!

Best I can tell from radio
There was an inside pitch.  Lackey said something that offended Kendall, who charged the mound.  They wrestled (or whatever you want to call it).  Benches and dugouts emptied and a brawl. Cleared out.  Kendall & Lacky both thrown out OR Scoscia arguing to keep Lackey in since he was defending himself.  Ken now saying Lackey had Kendall in a headlock and then Kendall took him down.   Idiocy IMO.

by Chavez4Prez on May 2, 2006 2:06 PM PDT up reply actions

I was watching on mlb.tv
Your description is pretty close.  Lackey threw one off of the plate in.  Kendall tried to lean into it. Lackey said something to him.  Jason then said, with my attempt at lip reading being anything but accurate, "What the fuck is your problem!!??!!?" then ran out to the mound and put him in a headlock.

I am glad that thomas did not get involved such that he didn't get hurt.

Kendall charged hard and wrapped up with Lackey
into more of a twisting wrestling take-down, with the catcher grabbing around his waist. Lackey looked like he was trying to get a couple right fists in there before Kendal swung him on the ground. then everyone else showed up and dragged them apart.

pure hilarity
lackey threw a curveball which tailed inside. kendall moved his arm out of the way, and lackey said to him tauntingly, "stick that thing out there" (referring to kendall's arm and the armor he's wearing). kendall, pissed off, says, "you got a problem?" and charges the mound, jumps up and grabs lackey by the neck and tackles him to the ground, making him fall hard, as lackey is trying to punch his way out of the headlock. benches are cleared and it turns into a big pile by that point. awesome.

From Radio
From radio I've gathered that Lackey threw inside, Kendall did his usual, draw the elbow in, hope to get hit. It missed, Lackey either stared at him, or most likely said something. Which then provoked Kendall to charge and take Lackey down (DOWN GOESSS LACKEY). Meanwhile their catcher tried to get kendall off of him. Bullpens, and dugouts cleared, didn't sound like besides Kendall Lackey, there was much involved besides maybe some pushing, etc. That's what I gathered!
Being an A's fan is never easy, but that's why we love it.

Oakland, you know I go way back. -- Too Short

by mendelbob on May 2, 2006 2:09 PM PDT reply actions

here is my fullest explanation
lackey threw a curve that was up an in, kendall could have definitely taken it on the arm if he wanted to. kendall walked out of the batter's box but lackey clearly said something to him and kind of nodded his head at him, as if to say, "yeah, what are you gonna do about it." kendall trows his bat down and charges the mound. lackey pounds his fist into his mitt as kendall's running out there, but kendall wraps him up, they do a little half turn, and kendall pins him on the ground like a little you-know-what. benches empty, etc etc.

by spoiltvictorianchild on May 2, 2006 2:09 PM PDT reply actions

"stick that thing out there"
is what lackey said, referring to kendall's elbow thing, which he did leave a little bit out over the plate. "what, you got a problem with me," quoth kendall.

John Lackey - S - Angels

John Lackey was ejected from Tuesday's game in the sixth inning for fighting with Jason Kendall.

Kendall and Lackey got into a shouting match after Lackey's inside breaking ball, and Kendall charged the mound. It looked like Lackey got the better of the wrestling match, though Kendall was able to throw him to the ground. A suspension could be a possibility for Lackey. It seems like a definite for Kendall. That's bullcrap. Stay in the box and drill a single up the middle. Now he gets suspended at a time when our pitching staff is on fumes.

As for Macha, the single dumbest move of the season. 73 pitches for a guy who wasn't supposed to go past 60. The best hitter on the other team coming up, who's only hitting .500 against lefties this year. Why give Vlad the chance to wake up the crowd??

In this game.
I loved Chavy before. Kendall took control of my love for a few innings. Then Chavy started kicking ass again.

I can't wait to read the wraps and stories on this game.

You poeple should be watching this!

That ball was SO deep in Chavvy's web
It was poking out the other side.

Kingfish gives up on the play...I love it!

it was by the
spirit of Kendall that made Chavy come through on that dp

Confused.
What happened with this DP?

by whiteshoes40 on May 2, 2006 2:33 PM PDT reply actions

line drive...
STUCK in Chavvy's glove...literally. It poked out the other side.

Kingfish stuck between first and second...gave up because he thought Chavvy would gun him out. Chavvy tried three times...finally gets it, and just gets TS as he tries to hustle back

by FireballerHARDEN on May 2, 2006 2:35 PM PDT up reply actions

Line drive to Chavy...
Caught for the second out. Salmon was running to second. The ball was caught deep in Chavez's glove, but Salmon non-chalantly went back to first -- giving enouhg time for Chavy to get the ball out of the glove, throw to first, and double Salmon off. Inning over.

by Sharon on May 2, 2006 2:36 PM PDT reply actions

I like using Street earlier
but then who pitches the 8th?

Maybe leave Calero for 7th - then Street for the 8th?

by FireballerHARDEN on May 2, 2006 2:37 PM PDT reply actions

i would hope that Calero
at least starts the 7th

by F171615 on May 2, 2006 2:37 PM PDT reply actions

Okay Mr. Macha
Just so there is no confusion:

Calero should pitch to Quinlan and Mathis.

Kennedy should then come in to pitch to Kennedy, Figgins, Cabrera and Anderson.

At this point (hopefully depending on game situation) we should go to Duke or Street (whoever is the available, designated closer for today)

That is all

I am really steamed at both Kendall and Macha. kendall acted like a 6th grader; Macha had a brain cramp or something.
