Cupcakes, Kots, Scoot, Swish and the Gamer

Tonight you saw the true strength of this team.

Crosby still hurt; Chavez 0-5; Thomas 0-4 and....

1) After 4 starts that can be reasonably classified as horrible, shaky, schizophrenic and lousy, all our #5 starter does is go out and throw two-hit baseball for 8 innings.

Does anyone realize that since the end of May last year, Blanton has been one of the 5 most effective starting pitchers in the game???

  1. Kotsay is back (no pun intended) this year-- in the field and at the plate;
  2. Bobby who?? Scoot has been terrific this week;
  3. Swish's average sucks but he's come up with a couple of huge hits;
  4. and what can you say about the Gamer? After a baserunning blunder costs the team one run and probably two (and don't forget that his walk was a big part of that rally), all he does is walk again, steal, force a bad throw and set the table for another 3 run rally to ice the game.
This team has so many weapons this year it's ridiculous.

my guess for tomorrow's lineup
i dunno, just felt like doing this:
  1. Ellis 2B
  2. Kotsay CF
  3. Bradley RF
  4. Chavez 3B
  5. Thomas DH
  6. Payton LF
  7. Kendall C
  8. Swisher 1B
  9. Scutaro SS
As much as I liked antonio perez in LA, it looks like he has lost his ability to hit...
Get off Joe Kennedy.

During the post-game show
Fosse said that Macha was already planning on playing Crosby, and that Scoot was going to play second, presumably meaning that Ellis is getting the day off.

That said, I hope we see Milton in the top third tomorrow.

"The first night, we were right there," Bradley said. "All we needed was a couple of touchdowns, and we would have had them."

I hope so...
because I think we need our best all around offensive player in the top 3, not in the 6th spot.
Two-thirds of the earth is covered by water, the other third is covered by Kotsay.

Sounds like Crosby will be back tomorrow
Manager Ken Macha said shortstop Bobby Crosby took batting practice prior to Friday night's game, "[Crosby] swung the bat very well, and the chances of him being in the lineup [on Saturday] are high."

Oaktoon
you write brilliant pieces. But why don't you write your recaps too when the A's lose? I might be wrong.

Too (2) cool facts from this game
Milton Bradley saw 34 pitches.

Jelly Bean and the Duke faced one over the minimum batter.

Heck of a game
Blanton could be, for at least until he really dominates the best #5 starter in the league but Kotsay seems to be real good in the beginning of the year so take it for what it's worth.

I love how....
my nickname "Cupcakes" has stuck with so many people on AN. I could've sworn I heard someone talk about Cupcakes on Monday night. Then again, I could've been taking it too figuratively...

Great recap :]

"Cupcakes"
is an excellent nickname and I use it all the time too, talking to both A's fans and non-A's fans...

The History of Cupcakes
The nickname Cupcakes originated from late night antics at a teenage girl's sleepover. These teenage girls were up late at night when all of a sudden, they decided to review mugshots at the Oakland Athletics website for reasons unknown. When they reached Joe Blanton's mugshot, one of these girls automatically blurted out, "I love cupcakes." Apparently, that's what the look on Blanton's face suggested he was thinking. After many minutes of scrutinizing Blanton's mugshot, the girls came to the conclusion that Joe Blanton indeed looked like the Doughboy and from that moment forth he would be known as Cupcakes.

The End.

"Cupcakes" stuck with me, too
And I've also spread it to my sister, and my husband... because it just fits, and it sounds a lot nicer than what we had very affectionately started calling him last year -- "Lumpy".
MMMM... gotta love the "new season" smell ~~ jlaff

peace love and understanding?

Now it's Myspace, "hanging out" and did-you-get-my-text-message.

I know what you mean.
I was talking to a 30 year old friend and I was explaining how a boy asked me out. For us, asking someone out means like BF/GF. He was appaled. He said that when you asked someone out, it was on a date. It was different back then!!!

By the way, you got it wrong. It's not "hanging out". It's "chillin' at the crib".

Well, that's good to know....
after all the talk in this space last season about player's nether regions, I was dreading to find out that "cupcakes" to cakes of a different kind.  Whew!

Ideal starting rotation...Harden, Haren, Blanton,
Duke & Zito in that order.

Let Beane figure out what to do with the extra guy named Esteban acquired for to much "dinero".

ha
Not only does Crosby stink, Zito is our fifth starter! Must be because of opening day...

Well you'll see the first three in that order in 2007 I'm pretty sure...
