Open Thread: Game 24 - A's at Kansas City (cont.)

The A's have received a gift - a rain delay.

Esteban Loaiza continued not to impress anybody, and the A's see a deficit of 6-1. This thread is aimed to either keep the rain going, or turn things around.

Loaiza can't hurt us anymore.

Update [2006-4-29 22:6:19 by louismg]:Game is officially rained out. Double header forthcoming on August 18th. Go A's!

Loaiza
Im highly dissapointed in Loaiza.  I can't understand how a pitcher of his supposed caliber gives up six runs to the crappy Royals in the first inning.  When I heard that Loaiza was coming to Oakland I thought that we just added another solid starter to our rotation; I'm beggining to have doubts about him now.  Loaiza is on the verge of starting the season 0-4, what a BUM, he obviously cares more about pitching for his country then he does the Oakland A's.  Give some one else a shot Macha!!!!!!!

Blame it on the rain - Milli Vanilli
You said you didn't need her,
you told her goodbye.
You sacrificed a good love
to satisfy your pride.
Now you wish that you still had her,
and you feel like such a fool.
You let her walk away,
now it just don't feel the same.
Gotta blame it on something,
gotta blame it on something.
Blame it on the rain that was fallin', fallin'.
Blame it on the stars that shine at night.
Whatever you do, don't put the blame on you;
blame it on the rain, yeah, yeah.
You can blame it on the rain.
Should have told her you were sorry,
could have said you were wrong.
But no, you couldn't do that,
you had to prove you were strong.
If you hadn't been so blind then,
she might still be there with you.
You want her back again,
but you just don't feel the same.
Gotta blame it on something,
gotta blame it on something.
Blame it on the rain that was fallin', fallin'.
Blame it on the stars that shine at night.
Whatever you do, don't put the blame on you;
blame it on the rain, yeah, yeah.
You can blame it on the rain.
But the rain don't mind and the rain don't care.
You've gotta blame it on somethin'.
Blame it on the rain that was fallin', fallin'.
Blame it on the stars that shine at night.
Whatever you do, don't put the blame on you;
blame it on the rain, yeah, yeah.
You can blame it on the rain,
blame it on the rain, yeah, yeah.
Blame it on the rain, yeah, yeah.
Blame it on the rain, yeah, yeah.
Blame it on the rain, yeah, yeah.
Blame it on the rain, yeah, yeah.
Whatever you do, don't put the blame on you;
blame it on the rain, yeah, yeah.

I Wish It Would Rain Down - Phil Collins
You know I never meant to see you again
But I only passed by as a friend
All this time I stayed out of sight
I started wondering why

Now I, Now I wish it would rain down, down on me
Yes I wish it would rain, rain down on me now
Yes I wish it would rain down, down on me
Yes I wish it would rain on me

You said you didn't need me in your life
I guess you were right
I never meant to cause you no pain
But it looks like I did it again

Now I, Now i know, i wish it would rain down, down on me
Yes I wish it would rain, rain down on me now
Yes girl I wish it would rain down, down on me
Yes I wish it would rain on me

Though your hurt is gone, mines hanging on, inside
And I know, it's eating me through every night and day
I'm just waiting on your sign

'Cos I know, I know, I never meant to cause you no pain
And I realize I let you down
But I know in my heart of hearts
I know I'm never gonna hold you again

Now I, Now i know, i wish it would rain down, down on me
Ohh I wish it would rain, rain down on me now
Ohh I wish it would rain down, down on me
Yes I wish it would rain down, rain down over me

Just rain down over me
Just let it rain down...

ladies and gentlemen, the Temptations
I Wish That It Would Rain

Sunshine, blue sky, please go away,
My girl has found another, and gone away
With her went my future, my life is filled with gloom,
So day after day, I stay locked up in my room

I know to you it might sound strange,
I wish it would rain (oh how I wish that it would rain)
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah

Cause so badly
I wanna go outside (such a lovely day)
Everyone knows that a man ain't supposed to cry
But listen, I got to cry, cuz crying, ooooooooh,
Is the pain, oh yeah

Yeah you know people, this hurt I feel inside,
Words, they, could never explain,
I wish it would rain (oh how i wish that it would rain)
Oh let it rain, rain, rain, rain (oh how i wish that it would rain)
Ooooooh baby

Let it rain (rain, rain)
Oh yeah, let it rain

Day in day out, my tear stained face
Pressed against my window pane
I search the skies, well, desperately for rain
Cause rain drops will hide my teardrops and no one will ever know
That I'm crying (crying) crying (crying)
When I go outside

To the world outside my tears I refuse to explain,
I wish it would rain (oh how I wish that it would rain)
Rain, rain, rain (oh how I wish that it would rain)
ooooh baby

Let it rain
I need rain to disguise the tears in my eyes
Yeah, You know I'm a man, I ain't got no pride,
Til it rains, I'm gonna stay inside,
Let it rain, Let it rain
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...
Oh how I wish that it would rain...

led zeppelin the rain song
It is the springtime of my loving
the second season I am to know
You are the sunlight in my growing
so little warmth I've felt before.
It isn't hard to feel me glowing
I watched the fire that grew so low.

It is the summer of my smiles
flee from me Keepers of the Gloom.
Speak to me only with your eyes.
It is to you I give this tune.
Ain't so hard to recognize
These things are clear to all from
time to time.

Talk Talk
I've felt the coldness of my winter
I never thought it would ever thaw.
I cursed the gloom that set upon us...
But I know that I love you so

These are the seasons of emotion and like the winds they rise and fall
This is the wonder of devotion
I seek the torch we all must hold.
This is the mystery of the quotient
Upon us all a little rain must fall.

A game isn't official..
...until five innings are completed (4 1/2 if the home team is ahead).

If rain washes out a game after it has started and it hasn't become official, the game and all its statistics are wiped out and re-scheduled to start from the beginning at a later date.

A game needs 5 innings
To be considered official. If this doesnt go 5, it will be considered an unofficial game and they'd have to play another game.

And, from our standpoint, at least we can pretend this start never happened.

A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall (I hope)
Oh, where have you been, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, where have you been, my darling young one?
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains,
I've walked and I've crawled on six crooked highways,
I've stepped in the middle of seven sad forests,
I've been out in front of a dozen dead oceans,
I've been ten thousand miles in the mouth of a graveyard,
And it's a hard, and it's a hard, it's a hard, and it's a hard,
And it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

Oh, what did you see, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, what did you see, my darling young one?
I saw a newborn baby with wild wolves all around it
I saw a highway of diamonds with nobody on it,
I saw a black branch with blood that kept drippin',
I saw a room full of men with their hammers a-bleedin',
I saw a white ladder all covered with water,
I saw ten thousand talkers whose tongues were all broken,
I saw guns and sharp swords in the hands of young children,
And it's a hard, and it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
And it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

And what did you hear, my blue-eyed son?
And what did you hear, my darling young one?
I heard the sound of a thunder, it roared out a warnin',
Heard the roar of a wave that could drown the whole world,
Heard one hundred drummers whose hands were a-blazin',
Heard ten thousand whisperin' and nobody listenin',
Heard one person starve, I heard many people laughin',
Heard the song of a poet who died in the gutter,
Heard the sound of a clown who cried in the alley,
And it's a hard, and it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
And it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

Oh, who did you meet, my blue-eyed son?
Who did you meet, my darling young one?
I met a young child beside a dead pony,
I met a white man who walked a black dog,
I met a young woman whose body was burning,
I met a young girl, she gave me a rainbow,
I met one man who was wounded in love,
I met another man who was wounded with hatred,
And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

Oh, what'll you do now, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, what'll you do now, my darling young one?
I'm a-goin' back out 'fore the rain starts a-fallin',
I'll walk to the depths of the deepest black forest,
Where the people are many and their hands are all empty,
Where the pellets of poison are flooding their waters,
Where the home in the valley meets the damp dirty prison,
Where the executioner's face is always well hidden,
Where hunger is ugly, where souls are forgotten,
Where black is the color, where none is the number,
And I'll tell it and think it and speak it and breathe it,
And reflect it from the mountain so all souls can see it,
Then I'll stand on the ocean until I start sinkin',
But I'll know my song well before I start singin',
And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

I Love a Rainy Night - Eddie Rabbit
Well I love a rainy night
I love a rainy night
I love to hear the thunder
Watch the lightning
When it lights up the sky
You know it makes me feel good
Well I love a rainy night
It's such a beautiful sight
I love to feel the rain
On my face
To taste the rain on my lips
In the moonlight shadow

Showers wash
All my cares away
I wake up to a sunny day
'Cause I love a rainy night
Yes I love a rainy night
Well I love a rainy night (2x)

Well I love a rainy night
I love a rainy night
I love to hear the thunder
Watch the lightning
When it lights up the sky
You know it makes me feel good
Well I love a rainy night
It's such a beautiful sight
I love to feel the rain
On my face
To taste the rain on my lips
In the moonlight shadow

Puts a song
In this heart of mine
Puts a smile on my face every time

'Cause I love a rainy night
Yes I love a rainy night
Ooh I love a rainy night
Yeah I love a rainy night

Singing in the Rain - Frank Sinatra
Du Du Du Du Du Du Du Du Du
Du Du Du Du Du Du Du Du Du

I´m singin´ in the rain
Just singin´ in the rain,
What a glorious feeling,
And I´m happy again.
I´m laughing at clouds
So dark, up above,
The sun´s in my heart
And I´m ready for love.

Let the stormy clouds chase.
Everyone from the place,
Come on with the rain
I have a smile on my face.
I´ll walk down the lane
With a happy refrain
Just singin', singin' in the rain.

Dancing in the rain.

I'm happy again.

I'm singin' and dancin' in the rain.

Dancin' and singin' in the rain.

Sinatra?
I'm sure he sang it at some point, and he's a better singer than Gene Kelly, but Kelly's version is a classic.  The thought of that song, and Kelly's performance of it, makes me smile.  The movie, by the way, is great, and even had my elementary-school age daughter thoroughly entertained a couple of years ago.

I never meant 2 cause u any pain
I only wanted 2 one time see u laughing
I only wanted 2 see u laughing in the purple rain

Purple rain purple rain
Purple rain purple rain
Purple rain purple rain

I only wanted 2 see u bathing in the purple rain

I never wanted 2 be your weekend lover
I only wanted 2 be some kind of friend
Baby I could never steal u from another
It's such a shame our friendship had 2 end

Purple rain purple rain
Purple rain purple rain
Purple rain purple rain

I only wanted 2 see u underneath the purple rain

It's time we all reach out 4 something new
That means u 2
U say u want a leader
But u can't seem 2 make up your mind
I think u better close it
And let me guide u 2 the purple rain

Purple rain purple rain
Purple rain purple rain

If you know what I'm singing about up here
C'mon raise your hand

Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head...
Raindrops keep fallin' on my head
And just like the guy whose feet are too big for his bed
Nothin' seems to fit
Those raindrops are fallin' on my head, they keep fallin'

So I just did me some talkin' to the sun
And I said I didn't like the way he got things done
Sleepin' on the job
Those raindrops are fallin' on my head, they keep fallin'

But there's one thing I know
The blues they send to meet me won't defeat me
It won't be long till happiness steps up to greet me

Raindrops keep fallin' on my head
But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turnin' red
Cryin's not for me
'Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complainin'
Because I'm free
Nothin's worryin' me

One Rainy Wish
Golden rose, the color of the dream I had
Not too long ago
A misty blue and the lillac too
A never to grow old.

A there you were under the tree of song
Sleeping so peacefully
In your hand a flower played
A waiting there for me.

I have never
Laid eyes on you
Not before
This timeless day
But you woke and whoa
Smiled my name
And you stole
My heart away
A stole my heart away little girl, yeah
All right !

Golden rose, the color of the dream I had
Not too long ago
Misty blue and lillac too
A never to grow old.

Golden rose, the color of the dream I had
Misty blue and lillac too
Golden rose, the color of the dream I had
Misty blue and lillac too
Gold and rose, gold are rose, gold and rose.

It's only a dream
I'd love to tell somebody about this dream
The sky was filled with a thousand stars
While the sun kissed the mountains blue
And eleven moons played across rainbows
Above me and you.
Gold and rose the color of the velvet walls surround us.

Rain
If the rain comes they run and hide their heads.
They might as well be dead.
If the rain comes, if the rain comes.
When the sun shines they slip into the shade
(When the sun shines down.)
And sip their lemonade.
(When the sun shines down.)
When the sun shines, when the sun shines.
Rain, I don't mind.
Shine, the weather's fine.
I can show you that when it starts to rain,
(When the Rain comes down.)
Everything's the same.
(When the Rain comes down.)
I can show you, I can show you.
Rain, I don't mind.
Shine, the weather's fine.
Can you hear me, that when it rains and shines,
(When it Rains and shines.)
It's just a state of mind?
(When it rains and shines.)
Can you hear me, can you hear me?

If the rain comes they run and hide their heads.

The Pencil Rain - TMBG
The possible dream
Finale of seem
The moment that some call eternal that some call insane
Now helmets on each head awaiting the first lead
The pageant is named the pencil rain

The infantry stands
And holds out its hands
The marshal's binoculars focus and skyward they train
They're searching the yonder blue
They look out for number two
The heraldry of the pencil rain

And now hear the roar that none can ignore
The thunderous clatter of splintering wood and lives that are claimed
And none who have witnessed all
Can think of a nobler cause than perishing in the pencil rain
The pencil rain
The pencil rain
The pencil rain

and leave those umbrellas at home. - Alright! -

Humidity is rising - Barometer's getting low
According to all sources, the street's the place to go
Cause tonight for the first time
Just about half-past ten
For the first time in history
It's gonna start raining men.

It's Raining Men! Hallelujah! - It's Raining Men! Amen!
I'm gonna go out to run and let myself get
Absolutely soaking wet!
It's Raining Men! Hallelujah!
It's Raining Men! Every Specimen!
Tall, blonde, dark and lean
Rough and tough and strong and mean

God bless Mother Nature, she's a single woman too
She took off to heaven and she did what she had to do
She taught every angel to rearrange the sky
So that each and every woman could find her perfect guy
It's Raining Men! Hallelujah! - It's Raining Men! Amen!
It's Raining Men! Hallelujah!
It's Raining Men! Ame---------nnnn!

I feel stormy weather / Moving in about to begin
Hear the thunder / Don't you lose your head
Rip off the roof and stay in bed

God bless Mother Nature, she's a single woman too
She took off to heaven and she did what she had to do
She taught every angel to rearrange the sky
So that each and every woman could find her perfect guy
It's Raining Men! Yeah!

In The City In The Rain - The 6ths
In the city in the rain you've got a beautiful face.
In the cityin the rain you vanish without a trace.
In the city in the rain you've got mysterious ways.
In the city in the rain I'm gonna spend all my days.

I think I'm gonna dance all night long.
I think I'm gonna dance till the moon goes down.

In the city in the rain, inside a smoky cafe.
In the city in the rain you tell me that you'll stay.
In the city in the rain you suddenly slip away.
In the city in the rain I'm gonna spend all my days.

Chorus
In the city in the rain I hear the screaming of tires.
In the city in the rain I'm setting myself on fire.
In the city in the rain, among the beautiful lights.
In the city in the rain I think I'll dance all night.

Inspired by your odd sigline
Nick's Fremont

And did those cleats in ancient times
Walk upon Oakland's outfield green
And was the holy Lamb of God
On Oakland's hottest corners seen?

And did the Countenance Divine
Shine out past center to our hills?
And was a Fremont builded here
While Oakland's stands stood half-filled?

Bring me my glove of burning gold
Bring me my fan-base of desire!
Bring me my bat -- o, clouds unfold!
Bring me my ghost pitch of fire!

I will not cease from Series strife
Nor shall my bat sleep in my hand
Til we have built a stadium
In Oakland's green and pleasant lands!

Change it to April Rain
When I look into your eyes
I can see a love restrained
But darlin' when I hold you
Don't you know I feel the same
'Cause nothin' lasts forever
And we both know hearts can change
And it's hard to hold a candle
In the cold November rain
We've been through this such a long long time
Just tryin' to kill the pain
But lovers always come and lovers always go
An no one's really sure who's lettin' go today
Walking away
If we could take the time to lay it on the line
I could rest my head
Just knowin' that you were mine
All mine
So if you want to love me
then darlin' don't refrain
Or I'll just end up walkin'
In the cold November rain

Do you need some time...on your own
Do you need some time...all alone
Everybody needs some time...on their own
Don't you know you need some time...all alone
I know it's hard to keep an open heart
When even friends seem out to harm you
But if you could heal a broken heart
Wouldn't time be out to charm you

Sometimes I need some time...on my
own Sometimes I need some time...all alone
Everybody needs some time...on their own
Don't you know you need some time...all alone

And when your fears subside
And shadows still remain, ohhh yeahhh
I know that you can love me
When there's no one left to blame
So never mind the darkness
We still can find a way
'Cause nothin' lasts forever
Even cold November rain

Don't ya think that you need somebody
Don't ya think that you need someone
Everybody needs somebody
You're not the only one
You're not the only one

What a lovely game
Trapped in purgatory
A lifeless object, alive
Awaiting reprisal
Death will be their acquisition

The sky is turning red
Return to power draws near
Fall into me, the sky's crimson tears
Abolish the rules made of stone

Pierced from below, souls of my treacherous past
Betrayed by many, now ornaments dripping above

Awaiting the hour of reprisal
Your time slips away

Raining blood
From a lacerated sky
Bleeding its horror
Creating my structure
Now I shall reign in blood!

I say what comes to my mind
Because I never get around to things
I'm living a straight, straight line

You know me I'm acting dumb.
And you know the scene here very hum-drum
Boredom, boredom.

And now I'm living in this movie
But it doesn't move me!
I'm the man that's waiting for the phone to ring,
Hear it ring-a-ring-a-ring-a-fucking-ding

You know me I'm acting dumb-dumb.
And you know the scene here very hum-drum
Boredom, boredom.
Boredom.

You see there's nothing that's behind me
I'm already a has-been.
Because my future ain't what it was.
Well I think I know the words that I mean.

You know me I'm acting dumb-dumb.
And you know the scene here very hum-drum, drum
Boredom, boredom.

And I'm going straight back there.

You know me I'm acting dumb-dumb.
And you know the scene here very hum-drum
Boredom, boredom.

So I'm living in this movie
But it doesn't move me.
So tell me, who are you trying to arouse?
Get your hands out of my trousers!

You know me I'm acting dumb-dumb.
And you know the scene here very hum-drum
Boredom, boredom.

SOW, I just found out that Buzzcocks have a new album out!  Has anyone heard it?

Top 1st, Bases loaded, no outs, Barton up!

this game never should have been started
the field was already shot from last night's game and the weather was getting worse...very dangerous for the players.

Langston Hughes

Let the rain kiss you.
Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops.
Let the rain sing you a lullaby.

The rain makes still pools on the sidewalk.
The rain makes running pools in the gutter.
the rain plays a little sleep-song on our roof at night -
And I love the rain.

How much does this suck for the Royals
They actually had a real lead. And poor Reggie Sanders has a grand slam taken off the books.

On the other hand, YES!!!

First time I have EVER been happy that a game was canceled!

Now I think there are going to be some serious questions to be answered about Loaiza! He got lucky tonight!

the game was called. loaiza is over-rated. time for him to be cut from the starting rotation. send him to triple A! or maybe double a...

Free Pass
But surely this will make Billy take a serious look at Loaiza's situation. That was truly horrifying, and it came as a surpsie to absolutely no-one. This stroke of luck needs to be taken advantage of now as well as in August.

Tyler Walker takes his suckitude to Tampa Bay
Traded yesterday, blows the save & takes the loss against the Red Sox today, giving up 4 runs on 3 walks, 2 hits & 1 K.

Do the stats count?
For some idiotic reason I have Loiaza on my fantasy team.  His stellar effort upped my team ERA by 1.50.  Do stats from a postponed game count?  Will Yahoo go back and change things?

crappy deal of the current A's, what kind of bad contract out there could we trade it for ? Who's the next Jason Kendall ?
