More items of interest from the same link:
- Harden will throw to batters today, and his next outing could be in a simulated game. Harden is now participating in all fielding drills.
- Gerald Perry was pleased with Thomas' second day in the batting cage.
- Of the new pitchers, Chad Gaudin has drawn the most notice.
- Dan Meyer, Shane Komine and Adam Johnson will pitch against South Africa on Saturday. Don't expect to see many regulars in that game.

Oh, you know what?
You've been reassigned to Joe Kennedy. He's not hurt. But he's a valuable lefty for the team, and they don't want him do anything by himself.

Chavez in the Slusser article
WhAA!! Let's hope bro. That hasn't seemed to do the trick ever before.
I really wish he had shoulder surgery. I could see that decision really coming back and hurting the A's. Let's hope not. God willing.
I was chuckling

this makes me snicker...
Troy Percival is probably retiring
He's a gamer.
Instead he played through pain to earn a scrimmage save, then offered to coach, play in the minors, do whatever it takes to help the club.
Should be more like him.

Thomas will hit a bunch of homers this year..
Jabberwacky: What do you mean?
User: Well, I'd like to know how many home runs he'll hit this year.
Jabberwacky: First, make a major discovery concerning quantum particles, then...
User: I'll make you into quantum particles if you don't tell me.
Jabberwacky: You tell me your name first - go on.
User: You still haven't answered me about the home runs.
Jabberwacky: As far as I know you didn't ask any question.
User: How many home runs?!?
Jabberwacky: How many do you have?
User: I have zero! What about Frank?
Jabberwacky: Whose frank?
User: I'll sever your frank if you don't answer!
Jabberwacky: You're delusional.
User: Answer me already!
Jabberwacky: What question did you ask?
User: How many will he hit?
Jabberwacky: About fifty?
User: Sounds good, thanks.
Jabberwacky: You're not so smart.
User: Screw you, buddy.
Jabberwacky: HEY I'm A GIRL.
So, there you go. Scientific evidence that he'll hit fifty this year.

Is this
This country is fucked. 14 year old kids in my neighborhood are mugging people for fun. I guess this should all be expected after a Bush steals a couple elections. It was just a matter of time.
by Philip Christy on Feb 27, 2006 2:24 PM PST up reply actions
yes, brilliant
bush is obviously responsible for 13-14 year olds turning to the white power movement and mugging people for fun in your neighborhood, since neither of these things ever happened prior to jan 2001...

sorry if this already got quoted over the weekend
Susan Slusser's Sunday notebook included this:
Relaxed and pleasant, Bradley said he isn't even thinking about his surgically repaired left knee. His goal for the season is to stay healthy because in past years, when he has set goals, "anytime I get close, I get injured."
When asked if he plans to take on a leadership role, Bradley said, "I plan on getting in right field - not have opinions, not cause problems, just go with the flow."

Warnings from Williams
I'm beginning to pine for the days when the Yankees were World Champs after the out of control ego displayed by the White Sox, Red Sox, and Angels. What makes Kenny Williams think he can control what former players say to the media. Frank is ours now, and he has every right to speak about how he was treated. A warning? I wish Mr. Beane just picked up the phone and told Mr. Williams to suck it. If we are lucky enough to win it all in 06, I hope that afterwards, we had the class to not act like spoiled brats.
CWS should keep "warnings" limited...
All the little brats in this story need a timeout, if you ask me...
"sent a warning"?
Did Billy Beane wake up one morning with Stomper's severed head in his bed?
Or maybe Stomper leaves ...
I can see it now

Who is this Santiago Casilla Person?
by LD on Feb 27, 2006 1:05 PM PST reply actions
here's what happened
Jairo Garcia, the A's top minor-league reliever, is now known as Santiago Casilla. That is his real name; Casilla used false documents when he signed his first contract, something that is not unusual in the Dominican Republic but that has been less frequent since a post-Sept. 11 crackdown on visas.
"It's something we didn't know about, but he came forward with the information, so I commend him for that,'' general manager Billy Beane said.
Garcia/Casilla has aged 2 years and 10 months; he's now 25. He'll have to be issued all new papers, which could delay his arrival at spring training.
It's going to take the A's some getting used to. Beane referred to Casilla as "Jairo'' several times.
"I'm sure we'll all just keep calling him Jairo,'' Haren said. "That's such a good name, too.''
Hmmm..
I'm with Haren, though...he'll always be Jairo Garcia to me.

Aww, thanks for posting these!
DJ's new number makes me sad. :-( I hope that was just a decoy or something, man... I liked him as #11, it suited him. Plus, Hatty as 10 and him as 11 was so lovely and appropriate. :-(
I want Rheinecker on the team. In general. Him and Flores are the minor league lefties in my heart.
I'm with you on Danny

Thomas' response to KW
Thomas, who characterized his talk with Williams as lengthy and heated, refused to directly respond to some of Williams' harsher comments, which included calling Thomas "an idiot" and "selfish."
"Idiot? Selfish?" Thomas said. "There's nothing there worth a response. ... It's childish. It's time to move on. It's all a bunch of noise to me. ... As far as love lost, there was not much love there, anyway."
Added Macha, "[It] looks like we've got a rivalry going [with Chicago now]."
Macha's ready to kick some ass.
How funny would it have been
Childish, yes...but so freaking awesome.

Welcome, Mr. Thomas
Haha, for once, Macha is awesome.
Good response by Thomas. Best thing he can do at this point is just ignore anything else by KW and let that be his last statement. Since Kenny is apparently nuts.

May have been whiny
These photo day pictures are cracking me up.
Observations: Bradley's got attitude, Haren looks stoned, Bocachica looks like he's trying out for a modeling position, Bynum looks very chiseled and heroic, Kotsay's kinda scruffy, Z's just funny, Haren looks even more stoned, Chavvy cut his hair :), and Swish looks like he put on a little weight.
Ah, I love pictures. Yay for ST! :)
