DLD 11/29/06 - Calling in sick?
Okay, so I'm going to make sure that there's a DLD this morning so that y'all have something to do....of course, if you are tired of working, perhaps you should call in sick. (I especially like the helpful tips towards the end -- who knew that irritability was a symptom of Lyme Disease??)
For those of you single folks between 19-29, The Government is targeting YOU...
Oh wait, this is a baseball site....let's see, Boston close to adding Drew, St. Louis added Kennedy and Wells, Yankees had the highest bid on Igawa, Boston can't change their bid.
Oh, and for football fans, Cal is going bowling in San Diego.
Welcome to the Link Dump. Dump away.

Pre-March Syndrome.
You have no excuse.
hey, at least you don't have ...
of course not!
"winter time blahs"
Monday-Wednesday it was f'in 70 degrees. 70! I had on shorts! For the next few days, the temp will be below freezing. Hella ice/sleet/snow tonight. I can't plan on doing crap for the next few days because of this fucking weather. I'm going back into my DVD coma. Wake me up for ST.
y'know
A's pursuing Piazza, Floyd, Embree
Embree would allow for Kennedy to slide into rotation
Floyd needs an incentive laden deal.
yikes
No thanks to Embree, the guy is garbage.

Neyer checks in
SportsNation Rob Neyer: (12:07 PM ET ) I think Piazza's a good fit, except I don't know that the A's can afford him. And I think they could do a lot worse than just let Dan Johnson play DH against right-handers.
Alan Embree / Joe Kennedy
I think Kennedy would do well as the 5th Starter. He struggled in Colorado because he stopped throwing inside. After watching him last season, he is back to throwing his fastball in on hitters hands.

Kennedy
Look at his 2004 (Age 25). He's still young. He's still learning to pitch. He had one outstanding year in Colorado. Then, he lost confidence in 2005 (similar to many other pitchers in Colorado pre-Humidor)
I would list my Starter5 internal preferences as:
- Gaudin
- Kennedy
- Saarloos
- Halsey
- Windsor
- Komine

I think a greater concern is where
That seems like a serious obstacle for someone who is omnipresent.
In retrospect, that was way too much setup just to get to the omnipresence joke.

On the other hand
Perhaps it would be moot,

In Canada the age is 19, and the collegiate binge drinking problem is way way smaller than in the US.

You've got to go to the firefox plugins page
I'd direct you, but it's been a while and I use Netscape now.

Not a very insightful piece
I was sort of surprised to see this get so little AN play, especially given the quotes from AN'ers at the end. But I guess we all have relocation fatigue.

Well, as you said
It makes me think about the degree to which I sympathize with Wolff for blowing off Oakland. If we all knew what happened to the Uptown site, and found it discouraging, why wouldn't he find it equally discouraging? How patient should we have expected him to be?
You know what that tells me?
The second thing is, Rev puts himself before his website.

Australo-pithy-cus?
Sordid tale of JP Ricciardi
Barajas at first was represented by Gregg Clifton and Terry Bross, then switched to Dan Lozano, who had represented Barajas previously. Ricciardi said Lozano wanted to reopen negotiations, but the Blue Jays wanted no part of it.
"The original two agents agreed, and they did a great job - a super job," Ricciardi said. "Your word is supposed to mean something. What does that say to the agents you just did a deal with? You're going to get a new agent and start renegotiating?"
To be fair to Ricciardi...
I'd have told him to get stuffed too. And what's with the PA sticking their nose into other people's deals?
Agree on the PA.

Any techies have insight? I'm a'feared that my employer has labeled me a problem user and is blocking a whole series of IP addys which resembled the ones I spend so much time at. Though the loading problem isn't unique to me; other users on the network appear to experience the same thing. And I don't get the alarm bells that happen if the network thinks I'm accessing porn, gambling, or hacking sites (so anonymizers are out too).
If nothing changes, I'll either be an evening and weekend poster, after many of you cool kids have left. Or, I'll get fired and can post all day long, until I have to sell my laptop for gruel to feed my chillens.

Albert's value
Most Valuable Player on a Mediocre Team in a Crappy-division
It's the MVP-MTC award!
It's funny that the clearly more talented player says he should have won it, not becaue he's more talented ('cause clearly that has dick to do with it) but because his team made the playoffs ... I guess he's qualified to be a sports writer ...
