Around SBN: NHL Trade Rumors: Do You Make A Move For Rick Nash?

Why do you post here?

Why do you post here?

I know the answer for everyone; you're seeking attention, that's what you're doing.  Anyone who posts a diary or a comment does so because they are seeking attention.  In fact, even if you told me that it was for some other reason then I'd have to call "bullshit!"

That being asserted and irrefutable, in my judgment - a judgment that has been questioned given my loony player-trade ideas - I'm seeking the other predominate reason that you post in the forum.  I know that it could be some combination of the choices but please limit yourself to your other main reason for getting your thoughts out there.

You will be participating in a private study.  My vote will not be the first one...I'll vote later with anonymity.

Seriously, why do you post here?
I write to build or maintain friendships and alliances with some of the others in the forum. It's more social for me than anything.

I try to be the person that gets a thought `out there' first that way I can tell the others that, "I told you so". But I'm too humble to do it.

I write to influence the opinions of others. I enjoy seeing a shared opinion spread and be adopted...especially if they're my opinions.

I post here because...
I get to talk to other A's fans about the team that we all love.

I agree... we have to get our fix somehow
and if we talk about the A's to our 'real life' friends as much as we do on this site... By the end of the season, we're not gonna have any friends left.

LOL
It's gotten to the point that now when I don't bitch and complain about the A's when they're not doing so well, my friends and family get worried about me and they call me to find out if I'm ok.

My "real" friends
Are all A's fans.  Maybe you need to make some new friends, then.

if
you've got electrodes attached, how do you bounce off the chandeliers?

she tricked me!
That's why she put that big, shiny chandelier up in her basement -- there are electrodes attached to the chandelier!

What
kind of monkey are you anyway? Do you look like the rally monkey?

Because I think its clear Jennifer is trying to burn you in effigy. Or maybe you were just looking at Huston too much (where is HE in all this?)

by Alien @ Athletics Nation on Sep 27, 2005 2:59 PM PDT up reply actions

I was sent by the Collective ...
... to free Huston by distracting Jennifer. Now she thinks I have Huston. BUt I don't -- I think the Troglodists have him, and are attempting to sell him to Butcher for a sack of legumes.

Uh..I post for the purpose of ...
...getting questions answered by people who have the same interests I do about a team I grew up following. I'd rather get insight from those that care as much as I do about the current and future success of this team. The media, at large, doesn't always have my interests in mind. Is that wrong?

hate to say it
We are nerds, baseball nerds for that manner we take an extra step in explaining ourselves. Also I like to argue about the following: ESPN, the media in the bay area, moneyball or beane ball (whatever you people call it), oh and 145764 diaries about Chavez striking out too much.

Major disconnect
The way I see it, there are at least 15% of the "I could of said I told you so" types.  [Lunitic Fringe] I know your out there! And no one is going to know if your the person who votes that way. So, so far there really should be two votes for option #2.  Be genuine, people!

by LowcountryJoe on Sep 27, 2005 6:12 PM PDT reply actions

name names then
like who?  I can't think of too many people on here who stand out as prime examples of the #2 mentality...everyone strives for that sometimes, but not as their primary goal.  Once upon a time there was a guy named jrbh who was a Type 2 personality, but now I'd say only oaktoon and grover really come across that way (and they're a lot easier to take than jrbh was) (and I'll admit, I enjoyed it when I wrote the Bellhorn Designated For the A's diary as soon as I heard the Sox had DFA'd him, but I realize that there's too much baseball knowledge already present for me to do that too often here...).  Plus, options 2 and 3 kind of go hand in hand...

I wont tackle that.
But, I do believe there to be distinctly differnt motives between two's and three's.  Let me be the first to say, "I told you so!"

I post here...
because other people get annoyed. On here, someone could tell me to "Shut the hell up" and I would do it (or if I was in a rebellious mood, I'd fight back and not worry about having some chick wanting to beat my ass the next day). I post here because I've gotten more out of this website than I have talking to friends at school about baseball. I've made friends that I wouldn't have made otherwise and I've learned more in over a year on AN than I had in 7 years as a baseball fan. I post here because I can let my intellectual baseball side take over(although I'm reluctant to let that out sometimes) or I could let my hormone raging baseball player's ass loving side out and I could have a conversation with anyone.

I post here because, face it. How/where would AN be without me???? ;)

I like weirdos
Seriously. I like the fact I can be weird, nerdy or just honest about the game I used to love and usually find a few people out there who will engage with me.

I like chatting with a number of the regulars.  I think that's sort of different from wanting attention. I like the idea that as a relative old-timer I can welcome in shy newcomers. I like the Link Dump because it's sort of the anti-attention diary; it's a pot luck not a chef's masterpiece.

The main attention-calling thing I've done is the Diego series. But even that isn't mere begging for attention. Anyone who's had to write, sing or otherwise perform knows that you can create all you want for yourself, but you go to a totally different level when you have any kind of audience. Presenting something to an audience makes you suddenly more sensitive to what stinks and what's good about your stuff. So Diego has been fun to make and fun to share and it's fun to be creative in that 'audience zone'.  Fun fun fun till my daddy took my t-ball away...

doesn't get bored.  She indulges me...to a point.  But the minute I bust out VORP, I'm sleeping on the couch.

VORP?
Value Over Resting Place?  That's got to be negative and it comes at a higher cost, too.  Not very economical, but if your hand's been played [not to be construed as some ironical perverted statement], you've got to suck it up.
