Link Dump 9-14 Presented By Bipolar Express, the Movie

Bruce Jenkins at the Chron does not usually irritate me. However, he checks in with a mishmash of ignorance. In short: look past a batter's statistics except for the ones I know and love like RBI and AVG because I am completely ignorant of these crazy new stats.  It doesn't bug me when people critique saberstuff with some knowledge, but do people have to be so proud of how little they know? Like it's a badge of honor?

Speaking of seeing past the numbers, my eyes tell me Haren has electric stuff and has pitched extremely well 90% of the time, with a really crappy 10%. Baby Winexp hates Haren, but that's an argument for another day. Anyway, here's a blurb on extending Haren. Also, on injuries:

Outfielder Bobby Kielty believes he'll be back from a strained left oblique muscle by the start of the next homestand and said he might be able to play at Boston this weekend after hitting from the left side without pain. He also hit right-handed but said he felt "a little weak'' from that side. ... Bobby Crosby hit off a tee Monday, but his fractured left ankle was too sore to do so again Tuesday, so the shortstop did some throwing instead.

Our "trend" is down, which I haven't seen in a while.

I have a question
This isn't really a link, but I figured this would be the best place to bring up the question outside of creating a whole new Diary.

http://oakland.athletics.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20050913&content_id=1208306& ;vkey=news_oak&fext=.jsp&c_id=oak

I just happened to catch MLB 2005 a Season on the Wire yesterday. I thought it was way too funny!!! This morning I read this article which talks about Nick Swisher being miked for MLB and Spike TV during yesterday's game.

My Question is, if they are wearing the wire for TV, where, when, and how can we get the chance to hear it? During On The Wire, they only showed Chavey a small handful of times and he said that he likes wearing the wire so he can give the fans a chance to hear the game the way he hears it. Now, if that is the reason why they wear the wire, why have I, a fan, never heard of this before, other than a BRIEF clip during ESPN games? Can anyone answer this for me?

Some highlights from the show in case you missed it:

  • Hudson talking about how he talked to Zito the night before and then he began talking crap about his hair!
  • Mulder talking about buying a car and how he was all upset because he couldn't fit in anything. He actually sounded like he wanted to cry!
  • Swisher was yelling at people for avoiding him for being miked.
  • They caught a conversation between Bobby and Chavey about being dazed out on the field.
  • Chavey debating pitches with the pitching coach.
  • They had two interviews with Chavey and Swisher.
  • Even Players talk about eachothers asses!
  • A bunch of highlights from the All Star Game, including Duchscherer being way too sweet to a certain member of the Yankee Bull pen! (hey, he is a nice guy, he can't help himself!)
  • A ton of other funny moments from guys on other teams.
If you get the chance to see this, it is totally worth your time!

Here's a thought (doubt it would fly)
What if they had a player miked up during the whole game and folks could tune in to his microphone's frequency. It'd be like NASCAR where people can listen in on a driver's chatter with his crew chief during a race.

It would never happen, though. To much temptation for the opposing team to illegally listen in to a conversation between a catcher and a pitcher, a manager and a pitcher, or a whole mound conference.

But it would be interesting!
