Around SBN: Four TCU Football Players Among 17 Arrested In Drug Ring

Get ready for the Inevitable

The A's taking over 1st Place in the AL West.  And, Byrnes overtaking Kotsay against righties.

I am really friggin' happy!!!  The A's go to the playoffs this year, just as I predicted they would.  And, Byrnes outhits Kotsay against righties this year, just as I predicted he would.

Get your hundred dollar bills ready, guys.  You're gonna be paying up.  Byrnes' OPS vs. righties = .690.  Kotsay OPS vs. righties = .690.  It'll only get better for me from here on out.

Poll
Is Kotsay worth the $7 million?
Well, yah... during the 50% of the time his bad back doesn't keep him out.

He hit lefties great! Well, not near as good as Byrnes or Kielty, but he's still okay...

We ain't gunna get 1st Place...
Till at least Friday.

The reason simply being that Baltimore SUCKS ASS.

Friday is soon enough for me...
although, Byrnes will probably pass Kotsay before then.

Are
you saving up to purchase his contract?

How long do we have to put up with these stupid posts?

by gdubb925 on Aug 3, 2005 6:35 AM PDT reply actions

Stat Confusion!!!
Foolish we better establish whose stats we are using becuase MLB and ESPN both say the following:

Kotsay: 252 BA / 306 OBP / 394 Slugging
Bynres: 244 BA / 309 OBP / 390 Slugging

Both have OPS of about 700, but bet was 2 out of three on above so so are you still down in 2 catagories.

by novaoakland on Aug 3, 2005 8:23 AM PDT reply actions

weird...
ESPN had them both at .690 last night when I looked it up.  Maybe they hadn't updated for yesterday's games.

But, you are right... when I look them up today, I see:

         AVG OBP SLG OPS
Byrnes .244 .309 .390 .700
Kotsay .252 .306 .394 .700

I guess Byrnes' OPS is a roundup because, obviously, .309 and .390 is .699.  In any case, you are correct... it is 2 out of three on AVG, OBP and SLG.  And, I am still down, but not for long.  ;-)

How may decimal points are we going to on this
I mean if they are both 306 OBP are we going to figure out if it is actually .306489 to .306462.

Or is that catagorey a draw?

by novaoakland on Aug 3, 2005 4:29 PM PDT up reply actions

ummmm...
there ain't no "draws" in baseball stats.  ;-)

Please also provide diaries for former A's
Grabowski, Ortiz, AJ Hinch, Aaron Small, and other traded albeit not lamented Athletics while you are at it. Please, please, Foolsh, do provide us their stats on a daily basis.

BTW, why didn't ByrnesBrain play well when he was with the A's? Gentlemen, start your excuses...

Oy Vay!
A hitters left/right or home/road split for just one season is next to meaningless because of the sample size.  Try this on:

2002-2004

vs. RHP
Kotsay 1186 AB .288 AVG/.355 OBP/.434 SLG
Byrnes 730 AB  .253 AVG/.324 OBP/.422 SLG

OK..

Hey, Foolsh, Byrnes is gone, just deal with it.

Are your Byrnsie's lover? I think you are holding on to him too long. Admit it, he's gone!

by Fongpay on Aug 3, 2005 1:49 PM PDT reply actions

Wll I wish byrnes would hit a coupe fo bombs
versus the Angels, that would be nice.  Colorado didn't win a game during the Byrnes era, and I don't think Baltimore has, and the A's had a lsoing record during his stay.  coincidence, IBM presents "You make the Call"

Anyone remember that during the old Monday Night Baseball games

I don't
...remember that one, but I do remember This Week in Baseball on Saturday mornings. I don't know why, but I always liked TWIB Notes. I really miss that. ESPN made it completely obsolete.

Almost forgot
The poll is missing my answer:

Yes he's worth it and I'd take him as my centerfielder over Byrnes every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

by peanut gallery on Aug 3, 2005 2:33 PM PDT up reply actions

I am so tired of this Byrnes talk
HE IS GONE, WE ARE A BETTER TEAM WITH OUT HIM.  Kotsay IS a better fielder than Byrnes.  He has the most outfielf assists since, I think, 97.  He rarely has to leave his feet because he takes better routes to the ball. He reads the ball off the bat better than Byrnes.  You never seee him dive and a ball trickles past him, turning a single into a triple.  I think the overall hitting is pretty equal.  Kotsay is a leader, he has proven it.  Remember when T Long and Byrnes were our CF and we had one of the worst outfields in baseball (although i love the T long Catch in Boston).   So rather than crying about Byrnes and saying how we would be better with him and not with Kotsay, try loving this team for who they are.  What really gets me is that  we have lost 2 MVPs, 2 Cy Young runner ups and a good hitting poor fielding out fielder and the latter is the one you complain about?

Oh ya
Kotsay never costs us a playoff game by NOT TOUCHING HOME.  Byrnes hustles and tries his hardest BUT he is not smart when it comes to baseball decisions.
Hmmmmm should I touch home in an elimination game in Boston or should I push Varitek and hobble around?
Ok, come here Jason I need to push you.
