Around SBN: Celtics Seething Over Embarrassing Loss

Daily Link Dump 8.17.05

I know we're all depressed after last night's "Dom  Denkinger Bobble Head Night" Promotion.  The losses have been piling up, and the DLDDs have been neglected.  Coincidence?  Yeah, right.

Let's get started guys.  As always, any link to anything remotely A's related is welcome here.  No commentary necessary, but it can be done.

Huston "George Will" Street has a new diary up at ESPN: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=street_huston&id=2135974

And last night's game recap from the AP:
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=250816111

Let's get at 'em, guys!

When I read the head line, I thought to myself, We're Bart! And by golly, there we were, Bart! This article was pretty funny! Freakishly true! I swear, you can use a Simpson's Analogy for ANYTHING!

A question about Bobby Crosby
Do you know if Bobby Crosby is signing autographs at a restaurant in Pleasanton on Thursday, tomorrow? I swear I heard this on KFRC but I can't find any more info about it (time, address, etc.) Let me know if you have heard anything. Thanks!

Michael Urban interview and AN plug on
Baseball Perspectus.
  http://www.baseballprospectus.com/radio/audio/bpr_050813.mp3

Typical questions; How did the A's turn it arround so fast, ect.  But Urban did admit that he questioned Billy Beanes trades of Hudson and Mulder only to realize, once again, that Beane is smarter than your average GM.

Athleticsnation.com also got a big plug.  Urban was talking about Kielty's Ronnald McDonald outfit.  When the interviewer asked if photos were on MLB.com Urban informed him that the only photos available are on AN.

Did you hear the implied "My homey" Tyler?

Site to look up stats
I like checking guys' stats out at baseball-reference.com. They've got this sponsorship program where you can put a link to a site and a short message to sponsor a player's stat page. I just notices that the one for Barry Bonds is for SFGiantsTickets.com, and the message is, "Get your tickets to see the San Francisco Giants shoot for the 2005 NL West Title... and see Barry pass the immortal Babe!", to which I thought, "Hmph, that's a tragically optimistic prediction for the season."

Incidentally, the page for Octavio Dotel is sponsored by the "Oakland Committee to Impeach Octavio Dotel". Yikes!

We could have some fun with others...
Kenny Rogers sponsored by the Cameraman's Union of North America.

K-Rod sponsored by Paxil

Insert your own idea, and maybe we can do some fund-raising and make it happen.

A-N sponsored pages
It's cheap as hell, we could set up a paypal account and just start sponsoring players and link it back to athleticsnation.com. There are a bunch of sites that have done that for Giants and Athletics players, like bayareasportsfans.com. Maybe make it a module on one of the sides of the page.

BTW, I especially liked the Adam Melhuse one.

Funny Huston stuff, courtesy of Jennifer
from the Huston updates diary thread:

I was reading a UT fan site this morning. Holy crap! Funny stuff about Huston.

"If there was a hurricane named Huston, is there anything in this world that could stop it?"

hee hee
missed this the first time around.

he is a ninja. dont piss him off or he will flip out and kill your whole team... they should kick everyone out of the hall of fame and start over with just huston street

That is priceless stuff, especially on a (so far) grim A's day.

This is killing me.
"he is a ninja. dont piss him off or he will flip out and kill your whole team"

I still laugh when I read or think about this. The average person probably doesn't find this remotely amusing.

average shmaverage
The average person is probably unaware how dangerous it is to piss off a ninja.  Ninja Huston could throw a slider so hard that it would strike out a batter, his immediate family, the whole 40 man roster and all minor league affiliates.  Don't mess with Ninja Huston.

huston street video game
sort of.  Click on picture for more details.

I've heard of "seeing eye grounders" but this is ridiculous.

his only weakness is Pig Latin.

By they way, did you ever notice that Kotsay is Pig Latin for Skot?

by Apricot on Aug 17, 2005 7:28 PM PDT up reply actions

or is it?
maybe only in certain dialects of Medievil Pig Latin.

That was great!
Ok, but the Yankees talk needs to stop!! I just can't handle that thought! They already have half our team, they can't have Huston!

But this link was really funny! Thanks!
