Chattin' with Huddy-Warning, He's in a Braves hat.

http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/news/mlb_news.jsp?ymd=20050126&content_id=934872&vkey=news _mlb&fext=.jsp

A mlb.com chat with the bulldong, errr bulldog. Someone else can read it and bring out the good points. Not gonna read it myself, but figured you all would like it.This is yet another time I have tried to figure out if I still will root for him this year. I won't get him in fantasy for the first time in 3 years, he could be on the shelf for a while, who knows. This is going to be weird seeing those guys in new threads.

Dude...
That sucked. Like seeing your ex-girlfriend out with a new guy.

OK, not on the same level, of course, but you know what I mean.

yeah
I hate it when you trade your old reliable girlfriend for three young hotties.

Wait a second.

I can't stop laughing at that one....

Better Offense
Remember, he'll have the awesome Raul Mondesi, and um Brian Jordan knocking in runs for him.  Um, yeah.

Unoriginal nicknames
I'm going to have to trust the scouting reports and trust both Leo Mazzone and some of the NL veterans like Smoltzie.

Why is it that seemingly every major league player gets a nickname by adding an "ie" or a "y" to the end of their last name?  Does anyone else find this constant and widespread practice as annoying as I do?

In the UK I've noticed that instead of the "y" or "ie" you tack on a more macho-sounding "o". Franko. Deano. Etc.

Who do we play
in interleague play this year?  I think it is the NL west, so we dont get to see either Mulder OR Huddy, and we have to play the Giants, what, 30-40 times?

We're
playing the NL east this season

So we'll probably have a Huddy-Zito matchup. Most likely. I'm sad. :'(

I'm glad for him
The day Huddy left was the worst baseball day for me in the last 5 years, even worse than all those playoff heart-breakers.

But I'm gonna root my ass off for Huddy in Atlanta.  I'm happy that he's happy, and that he's not pitching against us in the AL.

by nickolai on Jan 26, 2005 9:40 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

I'm keeping him
He will be on my fantasy team.  I am debating droping Mulder for Sheets though.  Points league head-head.  I will get Haren in the draft.  Life goes on.

my team is kinda sick
The league is hyper-competitive though.  We keep 10.  I have Prior, Perez, Hudson, Sheets, Pujols, Arod, Manny, and Benitez and am debating between Dunn, Mulder, Beckett, Blalock, and Upton to round it out.  I usually never keep closers or catchers.  So I guess Armando is debatable too.  We have slowly been expanding our keeper numbers to deal with expansion.  I am currently mulling a trade of Sheets for G. Anderson and C. Lee.  Fantasy is amusing...you have to compartmentalize your brain...I almost never have AL West non-A's.  And have still done fairly well.

by Patrick on Jan 27, 2005 12:08 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

But will flop this year
Gonna be in Kenya for draft day.  Trying to get another owner to draft for me is going to be painful.  There go my upside late-rounders.

Yeah, yeah.  poor me.

Hopefully Bledsoe will be gone by the time I get back....ha.

by Patrick on Jan 27, 2005 12:14 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

heh you could put it in my hands...
last resort.  I'll build you a winner.  Wily Mo Pena will find a way to your squad if it's up to me.

Bledsoe...to Dallas?  How many mediocre quarterbacks does one team need?  I'm a little worried about Losman in '05 though...I wish Drew would play for the minimum this year

by Cutthemullet on Jan 27, 2005 12:41 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

alright
I will consider you if I can't schedule things.  Ha.  I have no problem with Wily Mo.  My problem last year was taking guys like Wilkerson and Nick Johnson way too early.  I like Pecota upside too much.  I got Oliver Perez, Burnitz, Sheets, and Pavano fairly late....rode them to the title.  Well...along with the 'core'.

I would have to draft over an IM program...kinda weak.  And I will be 11 hours ahead of the majority of league owners.  And the internet is very slow without fiber optic lines in much of Nairobi.

But like I said...poor me.

by Patrick on Jan 27, 2005 1:22 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

that "core"
...is officially sick.  I'll bet on your squad.  I've never done a keeper league for baseball, but ten players is pretty solid, that way it's not just perennial first and second round picks.
Alright let me weigh in: Mulder, Blalock, Dunn, Upton, Beckett...I don't know what the categories are, but...yeah I'd not keep Benitez and go with Beckett (pickle juice, piss on your hand, whatever, just no more fucking blisters...cost me last year), Blalock, and Mulder/Dunn.  Go get Danny Kolb in the 20th round or something.
And stop mulling that trade...you're not the Brewers, you have no reason to trade Sheets

ha
I agree about closers...the problem is that it is a points league head-head with wins and saves each worth ten points.  You get a point for each 1/3 inning.  Our format is like sandbox....if you ever played over there.  Guys like Kolb  and Nathan will probably be kept.

I don't know about Mulder....I can get Odalis Perez, Clement, or some shit later on.

Alright.  I will forget about anderson and lee.  Those guys annoy me anyways.

by Patrick on Jan 27, 2005 1:11 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

wow
yeah on second thought you might want to hold onto Benitez...closers are way more valuable than single-category wastes in this league.  Sounds like this league was created by Steve Trachsel or somebody else whose main value is to eat innings.  Pedro would be a liability here...

saving the pitcher
yeah.  this league supports irresponsible pitch counts.  It is common for league studs like Burnett to go down the next year.  I am looking for more 'progressive' ways to give points to starters.

by Patrick on Jan 27, 2005 6:05 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

It's all about the market ...
Do others tend to keep their closers? If so, you'll want to make sure you have at least one that is fairly reliable. There's nothing wrong with not trying to win a category or two, but you definitely don't want to put up a 1 or 2.

If you're not making a serious run at save, you don't want to give up steals too. You're going to need to work hard to get some speed into your lineup. Other than A-Rod, who may or may not run, you're not keeping many speedsters. You might even try overpaying (with guys you wouldn't keep anyway) to trade for a Pierre or Crawford. I'd say something along the lines of Dunn and Mulder should get it done in a heartbeat.

Relax alright don't try to strike everyone out. Strikeouts are boring besides that they're fascist. Throw some ground balls it's more democratic.

by devo on Jan 27, 2005 9:16 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

don't play roto
I like that format.  But they boys like head-head.  OPS and WHIP aren't categories but tend to be good indicators for closers and hitters.  Strikeouts hurt in points league...hence my dunn hesitation.  Middle relievers are beyond worthless.
Pierre and Crawford are fairly average.  That is another reason why I was contemplating CLee and Anderson.

Do you play?

by Patrick on Jan 27, 2005 1:16 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

my rec
drop Benitez, keep Dunn, Blalock and Upton.
Age matters... especially in a keeper league.
And positional players are easier to project than starters.

upton
If he only projects to a Furcal or Jeter-lite....I am concerned.  Also...if he doesn't stay at SS for several years....putting up with his mediocre production now might hurt.

Basically I want Tejada.  Or annoying AROD to play a week or two back in the hole where he belongs.

Mulder at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic
so on the same day we get to hear from both our former aces, as Mulder (and, for the record, to respond to an earlier post, he was not referred to as "Muldie") did a brief interview from the fairway during the pro-am...had to shake my head at the sound of him talking up the Cards' lineup and especially when he called for a rematch of last year's World Series.  Amazing timing though, because as soon as I turned on TBS or whatever station it was on they cut right to Mulder.  If they would've waited another second I would've had more than enough time to switch from golf.

Okay.
I would like to say that I miss Huddy in green and gold just as much as the next person. But the insane "girlie" part of me says that is one damn, damn good picture of Huddy. His wife had to dress him or something because he is way too coordinated. Not that I'm complaining :)

I was thinking...
Not that this matters but the team is considerably diminished in the Incredibly Sexy Department. Let's face it, losing Huddy didn't help. And losing Mulder...well, that sound you heard was a meteor smashing into and absolutely demolishing the overall sexiness of this team. sigh At least there were survivors.

by Sharon on Jan 27, 2005 9:39 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Haha
I bet it matters a lot for attendance purposes. I mean, if the Giant's traded JT Snow, they would lose 10k female fans a game.

by RichardP on Jan 27, 2005 9:52 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, *not* that it matters...
...but the hunky beefcake calendar we were working on needs retooling now that March and July are gone. Can it be a ten month calendar instead? Just the thought of having to use Macha and Keiichi Yabu as stand-ins for Huddy and Mulder is making me ill.

I think we may be scraping the bottom of the sexiness barrel.
