The Oakland A’s activated pitcher Kendall Graveman from the 10-day disabled list, the team announced Thursday. Graveman will start tonight’s game against the Angels. To make room on the roster, 1B/OF Matt Olson was optioned to Triple-A.
Graveman looked excellent in his first two starts of the season and even seemed to have added some velocity, but he left his third outing after just 74 pitches. Soon after, he went on the DL with a strained shoulder, though it was made clear that the injury wasn’t serious and the move was precautionary. As hoped, he only missed one start. His numbers this year:
Graveman, 2017: 3 starts, 2.00 ERA, 18 ip, 12 Ks, 5 BB, 3 HR, 4.81 FIP
Meanwhile, the 23-year-old Olson only got into one game while he was up in Oakland. He started in RF on Sunday and went 0-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts, but he did make a good play on defense — a sliding catch, followed by doubling off the runner at first base (video link). Olson is now 2-for-24 overall in his brief MLB career dating back to last September, with 7 BB and 6 Ks.
With so many moves over the last couple weeks, here’s an updated look at the 25-man roster.
