The MLB trade deadline is at 1:00 p.m. PT Thursday, which is today. So, the Athletics and every other team have until lunchtime to make their final deals. The A's already pulled a blockbuster on July 4, when they acquired starting pitchers Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel from the Cubs. However, that doesn't mean that they're done making moves. Indeed, there were whispers all of Wednesday that they were legitimately in the hunt for starter Jon Lester, and whispers from little birds on my shoulder tonight that big things could be in the words Thursday morning. Until something happens, though, it's all just speculation. We won't know for sure until 1:00.
Around the rest of the league, right-handed starter Justin Masterson was dealt from the Indians to the Cardinals, and lefty starter Felix Doubront went from Boston to the Cubs. So, clearly starting pitching is the hot topic this week. With plenty of names still on the rumor mill, including Bartolo Colon, A.J. Burnett, and John Lackey, the action could heat up quickly this morning.
Let's use this thread to discuss all things related to the deadline today, from trades that are announced to rumors that come up to things you want to see the A's do (or not do).
