Sorry if this is in the wrong place.. I've never really gotten used to this 'new' layout.
I had a heated debate with a Giant fan last week regarding Lincecum being a HOFer right now today, even if he never threw another pitch. I felt it was a ridiculous statement and pointed him toward Kawakami's piece last week comparing Timmy to other HOFs and near HOF candidates. It pretty much showed how far Timmy is from being worthy but the entire debate got mired down in a discussion about WAR. He kept insisting pitching WAR formulas use "runs produced" which he then spins into a defense for Timmy based on the Giants offense during his better years. I'll admit I'm no WAR expert and have issues with the way some use it as a catch all, but I've never seen a pitching WAR formula that used pitcher "wins" or "runs produced". That's kind of goes against the whole idea of WAR in the first place doesn't it? Any way if someone can correct me if I'm wrong I'd appreciate it. Unlike most Giant fans, I try to not just talk out my ass.
