Week 13 of the Fantasy Season is here my friends. Most leagues begin their playoff rounds in just 9 weeks so now is the time to start looking at your roster and begin making moves to solidify your team. If any of you are interested in waiver wire options for this week please visit my weekly waiver wire column here. This question came in this week about Coco Crisp.
Dear Phil,
I play in a 12 team 5x5 Head to Head league and I'm also a big fan of Coco Crisp but sometimes he makes me nervous. What should I do about him?
Thanks for the question.
As the readers of Athletics Nation can attest to there is nothing better than a hot Coco Crisp. When he catches fire he is phenomenal and the fire spreads throughout the team and that's when big things happen. He's also one of the most aggressive outfielders in the game. He doesn't care about walls or his body and while we love seeing it we also cringe every time he does it as that usually means a couple of days off to recover.
Coco is currently above his career totals in BA (.283), OBP (.381), SLG (.444) and OPS (.825). He steals bases (13), scores runs (39), drives in runs (23) and hits bombs (5). Crisp's BABIP of .309 suggests he's been a bit unlucky and his ISO of .162 is well above average. His WAR is down considerably from last season but by the time all is said and done Crisp will probably end up with a WAR at about 4-4.4. These are really good numbers my friend.
If you are a Daily Fantasy player the best Coco is when he plays at home and at night. His slash line at home is .333/.425/.516/.941 and his slash line in night games is .326/.426/.527/.953. Three of his five bombs this season have come at home and four of those five have come at night. Coco at home and at night is an automatic play for me and I suggest you do the same.
So what to do about Coco? I don't know what you mean about what to do with him? If your league requires you to submit your roster at the beginning of the week unless you have a better option than you almost have to plug him in. If your league allows for you to make daily transactions than monitor him daily for those occasions when he tears up his knee sliding across the outfield or when he runs into a wall and act accordingly. Here are a couple of waiver wire options for you to consider this week.
Hector Rondon RP Cubs: The Cubs are starting to win some games and Rondon has been a big reason why. Rondon has 34 strikeouts in 27.2 innings of work and his ERA (2.28) and WHIP (1.16) won't kill you so if you need some saves this week Rondon might be your answer. (Stats)
Luis Valbuena 2B 3B Cubs: Dual eligibility is a beautiful thing and so is playing every day. Valbuena does both and his slash line of .282/.378/.451/.829 works for me. If bench depth in the infield is what you need maybe Luis is your answer. (Stats)
Jason Vargas SP Royals: Vargas has been my favorite streaming option all season long. He goes deep into ballgames and he wins. It won't be pretty but he's been effective and his numbers in the scoring categories have been solid. He's a great end of the rotation guy if that's what you need. (Stats)
On this week's Fantasy Baseball Weekly Viva El Birdos Eric Johnson and I spent the entire program giving tips and advice for Daily Fantasy Baseball players to help them win cash. Of course the info is also good for standard league players as well. I'll leave the player below and you can download the show right HERE.
Good luck this week Fantasy Baseball owner!
