Game #52: A's Hit Tigers' Ace, But Lose To Bullpen

The pitching duel that was anything but went the Tigers' way today as Sonny Gray and Max Scherzer both went six innings, with Gray giving up 4 earned runs, and Scherzer 5. But the A's bullpen would give up two additional runs to lose the game, while the Tigers' pen would blank the A's the rest of the way.

Game #52: Bullpen Mental Error Leads to 6-5 Loss

On a day when the A's actually got to Max Scherzer, the Tigers got to Sonny Gray as well. The game was even until the A's blinked first, and allowed Rajai Davis to steal third base without anyone noticing. He would score as the difference in the game. Game Thread #52: A's vs. Tigers (4)

Well, we almost hung onto the lead, but Otero gave up the long ball in the seventh. Good thing it was just a solo, which tied the game at 5. Both pitchers will end up with no-decisions. It's 5-5 and we're going to the bottom of the 7th. LET'S GO OAK-LAND!

It's still not a pitcher's duel, but it's sure entertaining, as John Jaso, battered and bruised arm and all, homered to turn the A's 4-3 deficit into a 5-4 lead. Sonny Gray held the lead through the top of the fifth, and the A's offense should probably keep scoring. We're going to the bottom of the fifth, 5-4 A's. LET'S GO OAK-LAND!

Game Thread #52: A's vs. Tigers (2)

Well, it's been a lot of things, but pitchers' duel, 'tis not. After Gray put the A's offense in a 2-0 hole before they ever took their turn at bat, the A's offense battled back to tie the game off Scherzer in the second. But Gray hasn't learned not to throw any kind of a hittable pitch to Miguel Cabrera, and he was tagged hard on a 1-2 pitch in the third. Luckily, it was a solo shot, and style points do not count for extra runs. We're heading to the bottom of the third inning; A's down 3-2. LET'S GO OAK-LAND!
