Game Thread #110: A's vs Rangers

Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

Oakland faces Matt Garza in the second game of the series. Crap.

Loading Scores

Oakland is not playing its best baseball right now. In their last three games, they got smoked by the Blue Jays, then let the Jays win an extra-inning game in which Toronto made four errors, and then got smoked by the Rangers. And now, they have to face Matt Garza, who allowed the A's to score just one run in eight innings as a member of the Cubs last month. Time to turn it on, fellas.

Garza has already paid dividends for Texas, making two quality, seven-inning starts. He'll face Jarrod Parker, who snapped a long streak of solid performance in a disaster start against the Angels last week. Prior to his five-inning, six-run, seven-walk performance, he had tossed 12 straight quality starts (if you exclude the one against the Cardinals in which he left early with an injury). Here's hoping that last week was a blip in the road for Parker, and that he can return to form this afternoon.

Alberto Callaspo will finally get his first start for the A's. Jed Lowrie is DH'ing today, which means that both Callaspo (2B) and Eric Sogard (SS) will start up the middle. Stephen Vogt gets the nod behind the plate against the right-handed pitcher.

Lineups:

Let's turn things around, gentlemen. Even one win in this series would be enough to hold the Rangers at bay; a sweep at home would be completely unacceptable. Let's Go Oakland!
