GOG 2013 #32 @ "Houston, We Have a Problem..." [Answers Posted]

Hee, hee. If we have a problem, nothing like a little trip to Houston to "sweep" us out of the dumps, eh? [Note: This FanPost posted before today's much-hoped-for butt kicking of the Angels.]

The Questions

1. Series Outcome, 3 Games. [3 points]

- A's Take Series, 2-1

2. MLBTR. Bud Norris Rumors are flying. Does Bud Norris get dealt before the end of the series? Do any other Astros players (on the 25-man roster) get dealt? Do the As make any deals involving their 40-man roster? Does Texas land a new Pitcher [Garza to Cubs before Gametime - question null and void]. All answers null if the deal closes before Monday Gametime. [1 point each, 3 total]

- No, Bud Norris not Dealt Yet / No other Astros Dealt / No A's Dealt*

[* I am pretty sure that designating Vinnie Catricala for assignment to make room for Rosales to come back on the 40-man roster doesn't qualify as a "deal," but let me know if you disagree!]

3. Rutty Rut, Rut, Rut. Going into Sunday's game, the Athletics - unathletically - have 13 runs in their last 8 games. They have 39 hits over that time. Yoenis Cespedes is day-to-day, but totally unrelated to pounding like a thousand homers in NY. Guess the A's total runs and total hits for the series (+/-1 ok). Guess the single game high for each (if nobody hits this exact, points for whoever is nearest). Now, do the same for the Astros. [3 points each, 24 total]

- A's, Total = 12 Runs / 23 Hits; High = 4 Runs / 9 Hits;

- Astros, Total = 11 Runs / 20 Hits; High = 5 Runs / 8 Hits

[Each of the Single-Game Highs was correctly guessed by one or more GOGgers. When you score, remember the +/- 1 on the Totals!]

4. Pick One. Tommy Milone, Jarrod Parker, and A.J. Griffin. Pick one and guess the following: IP / H / R / BB / K. [3 points for IP, then 2 points each, 11 total].

Milone, 6 IP / 5 H / 3 R / 1 BB / 5 K

Parker, 7 IP / 5 H / 2 R / 2 BB / 4 K

Griffin, 6.1 IP / 6 H / 3 R / 0 BB / 8 K

5. Up the Middle. The A's have the fewest Double Plays turned in the Majors. This is due not only to inexperience and ineptitude (we still love you Jed Lowrie!), but also to the extreme fly ball tendencies of our starters. How many GiDPs do the A's turn through the series? Name one A's starting pitcher who will have as many Ground Ball outs as Fly Ball outs (as per MLB Gameday) - "None" is an acceptable answer. Name any starter that gets more GiDPs than HRs - again, "None" is acceptable. [2 points each, 6 total]

- A's turned 1 GiDP / Griffin, GO => FOs / Milone, More GiDPs than HRs

6. Obligatory WPA, or, "the dumb luck question." Seems like WPA has been unpredictable lately, so here is something different. Which position players have the Single Biggest Game Changing Plate Appearance in each of the three games, as measured by the WPA (Change in Win Expectancy) for that PA. You can guess three players for each team, but note that only 1 batter PA per game will be the actual winner - even if their team doesn't even win the game! As usual, the caveat of "name the player twice if you think they'll do this twice" applies. For a Bonus, Guess the Biggest of those three Game Changing PAs (e.g., Alberto Callaspo's homer in the 2-0 Slegna win was .098; Alex Rios's go-ahead Grand Slam in the 3rd inning that same day was .232; Kirk Nieuwenhuis's 9th Inning Walkoff on June 16 was worth .731!). There will be three winners, worth 5 points, 3 points, and 2 points, based on whoever is closest. [3 points each, up to 5 point bonus, 14 points possible]

Game 1: Reddick, .489 (2-Run HR in 8th Inning, bringing score to 4-3 A's)

Game 2: Dominguez, .444 (2-Run HR in 9th Inning, bringing score to 4-4 Tie)

- [Not much consolation to Moss's .410 for a 2 Run HR in 8th Inning, bringing score to 4-2 A's]

Game 3: Crisp, .350 (2-Run HR in 7th Inning, bringing score to 4-3 A's)

Bonus: I. longtimeasfan = 5 pts. (.280); II. punchy = 3 pt. (.254); III. ajangier = 2 pts. (.250)

(Possible points = 62.)
