Dear fellow beer-drinking A’s fans,
I come to you in search of experiences, opinions, and advice on the quickly approaching Beerfest on Saturday, June 15th. I’ve been to many A’s games, and also a decent number of Bay Area beer festivals, but for whatever reason, I’ve never made it to the A’s festival and I’m considering going this year.
I’d like to hear from those who have gone in the past in order to help me decide if it will be a worthwhile experience for me. I should start by saying that I am quite the beer geek who frequents places like The Trappist, Beer Revolution, and Toronado. When I go to beer festivals, I’m generally interested in trying lesser known beers, ideally surrounded by fellow beer geeks (i.e., people that are not only knowledgeable and adventurous about their beer, but also interested in talking about their tastes and experiences) without spending too much time in lines.
With all this in mind, I’m hoping that some of you that have gone in years past will give me a bit of input. On the basic logistical side, I’d like to know about the size of the pours, the cost of additional tastes, and the length of the lines. On the geekier side, I’d like to know about the offering of beers. Which breweries tend to be there? Are they pouring their standards, or are they breaking out some lesser-known gems? Are there unique beers there, or nothing that I couldn’t already find at my local Whole Foods? Typically inside the coliseum I drink Lagunitas or Ranger IPA, both of which I deem totally acceptable, but not particularly special. Will there be a great variety at the fest, or will it be more of what is already available at the stadium?
Your input is greatly appreciated.
