Hi everybody. This is the first of what will hopefully be many blogs to come. As the title suggests, this blog will revolve around a topic which I have had a life long love affair with. Baseball. Actually, this blog will be a work in progress. I see it evolving over the months based, mainly, upon input from you, those who care to follow this blog.
I should start off by explaining the idea that led to this blog. I grew up watching baseball in the 70's. During that time, I saw a story about a couple of guys that took a summer, and travelled the country and visited all of the MLB stadiums! That story really impressed me, I thought that that would be an amazing experience. I have travelled and had the privelage of seeing my team, the Oakland A's, on the road before. It was always a very surreal sensation. Being in another teams stadium, in and amongst their fans. Quite an experience.
Anyway, as fate would have it, I am at a unique stage in my life. My kids are now grown, and I have lots of free time on my hands. Also, I love to travel to new cities that I have never seen before. So here is my plan. I'd like to take my love of baseball and travel, combine it with my abundance of free time, and visit as many MLB ballparks as possible during this season. What's more, I'd like your help planning the trips. I do work full time, so I can't really take a summer and go from stadium to stadium (as much as I would love to).
What I envision is several small trips over the course of the season. For example, I could take a long weekend and hit a Baltimore Oriole game, a New York Yankee or Mets game, and a Boston Red Sox game all on the same trip. I don't think it is realistic for me to hit every MLB stadium, but I plan to have as much fun as possible trying! The role of this blog would be to plan and share the experience. For example, future posts will identify cities and dates. For example, I'll post a blog stating that I am headed for Texas and, whle there will be at the Rangers game on such and such dtae, and te Astros game on such and such. Feel free to comment on the trip. If I am coming to a city that you are famliar with, I am always open to recommendations on places to eat/drink. I would love to see posts on the trip as well as posts related to baseball. Who is hot at the moment, shared experiences at the ballpark, that type of thing.
Finally, if I am going to a game in your area, and you happen to be going to the same game, please feel free to come by, say hello, and have a beer. I love baseball and baseball fans and look forward to meeting many of you over the course of the season.
That's all for now. My next blog will contain a preliminary plan of cities to see over the course of the season. Talk soon!
