A's squander opportunities, lose 8-6

A bullpen implosion combined with a bases loaded epic fail send the A's to an 8-6 Game 4 loss. For the second year in a row, the A's find themselves having to go through Justin Verlander at the Coliseum to secure a trip to the ALCS.

ALDS Game #4: Tigers Beat A's in Wild One

So, here's the thing. If you had told me after Game 1; hell all the way up to inning 9 in Game 2 that the A's would get to a Game 5, I probably would have taken it cheerfully and probably thought we got a great deal. Should they have won tonight? Yes. Did seriously everything that could go wrong did? Yes. Were bad decisions made? Hell yes. Some of those bad decisions were not using your best defensive catcher, not pinch-hitting for a player who never should be up when contact needs to be made, pitching a rusty pitcher who gives up multiple runs every outing; hell for using Cook at all. But you know what? WE GET A GAME 5! This wasn't the way our season ended, thank God. We are still playing for #Oaktober, and we need just one win to reset. ONE WIN to go to the ALCS.

You know what else? We already beat Justin Verlander in this series once. Everyone in the lineup has seen him at least 3 times recently. They've faced--and hit--better pitchers since. They are HITTING. They scored six runs yesterday and six today.

And my final thought? The fans DESERVE a win at home after all that. Do we really want to waste champagne on Detroit's field? Hell no. Go to the game, cheer your freaking lungs out, and get this team back to an ALCS, like the old days. I want to see that 49,000+ crowd after a CLINCH.

EVERYONE TOGETHER:

LET'S GO OAK-LAND!

Billy Frijoles will be back with a recap. Hell, I would probably throw up a clip of Major League and call it a day, but he's better than I ;-)

Well, who really cares when this goes up now, right? Ryan Cook put two runners on, and Brett Anderson made sure they, plus one more allllll scored. It's 8-4 Tigers. The A's have one at-bat left to score 5 runs to prevent a Game 5 in Oakland against Justin Verlander. Let's go, I guess?

We're going to the 8th inning. The A's have blown every lead they have amassed, so maybe it's time to play from behind. Convenient, since it's 5-4 Tigers now, thanks to a whole lot of crap in the seventh. But this game is NOT over. The A's STILL have a lead in the series, and they CAN win to finish it here. EVERYONE TOGETHER, LET'S GO OAK-LAND!

Are we having fun yet? baseballgirl here as a substitute threader, here to take you home, and hopefully to AN A'S WIN! We're tied 3-3, going to the seventh inning, as Straily ended the sixth by striking out the side. That one bad pitch is the only thing that has ruined this game, and now the Tigers are throwing Scherzer out of the 'pen. We owe the Tigers this. LET'S GO OAK-LAND!

Coco just missed his second extra base hit, Straily is pitching very well, Cabrera may have aggravated his injuries, but still just a 1-0 lead for the A's.  A's bats, let's not let Fister get into a groove.  Time to add on.

Heading to the 4th...

A's up 1-0 heading to the top of the 2nd, thanks to a Coco leadoff triple and a Lowrie single to knock him in.

And I would be remiss if I didn't mention Straily pitching a scoreless 1-2-3 to start the game.

Pour it on! LET'S GO OAKLAND!
