Following up on the FanShot below, I just want to take a moment to wish Brandon McCarthy and his loved ones the best after he underwent surgery for an epidural hemorrhage and skull fracture revealed in a CT scan. McCarthy was struck in the head by a line drive off the bat of Erick Aybar in the 4th inning of yesterday's game.

I have long admired McCarthy both as a pitcher and a person, and I am tickled to know that his wife, Amanda, is familiar with AN. Through their amazing tweets, the McCarthys have shared their personality and humor at a level makes them feel like family even to those who have never met them.

Life is bigger than baseball, and let's join together in wishing McCarthy a speedy recovery following a scary, and sobering, incident. Go A's, and even more than that: Go Brandon.
