Hi all, I started this as a fanshot, but it got long on me, so I'll risk ridicule by posting it here. I suspect that with playoff tickets going on sale on Monday there may be many of us thinking about this issue.

So my basic question is if the wildcard team that makes it to the ALDS will be given the 4th seed independently of record. In other words, does the top division winner play the wildcard winner even if the wildcard winner has a better record than one of the other division winners?

Let's make this concrete: Please confirm or correct the following scenario, if the season were to end today:

October 5th: Baltimore at Oakland
October 6th: ALDS starts with NYY at Chicago for the frist 2 games
October 7th: ALDS starts with Texas at Oakland for the first 2 games (assuming Oakland beats Baltimore)

Is this right?
