2010 Giants: Trade their veteran catcher to the contending Rangers to go with a rookie behind the dish.
2012 A's: Trade their veteran catcher to the contending Nationals to go with a rookie behind the dish.
2010 Giants: Scrap heaped former Devil Ray/aging slugger/bay area native Pat Burrell provides power.
2012 A's: Scrap heaped former Devil Ray/not quite as aging slugger/bay area native Jonny Gomes provides power.
2010 Giants: Bench young infielder Pablo Sandoval for not producing at a level he had in his break out season the year before.
2012 A's: Bench (and send down) young infielder Jemile Weeks for not producing at a level he had in his break out season the year before.
2010 Giants: Rally behind a stupid song by Ashkon.
2012 A's: Rally behind a stupid song by ISA. (Granted our stupid song is funnier and way way less obnoxious than theirs.)
These are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head I'm sure there are many more.
The major difference of course is that the 2010 Giants had a fairly substantial payroll, had won 88 games the year before, and were expected to contend and our 2012 A's well.. were none of those things.
Of course nobody knows how the rest of this is going to play out for our boys in Green and Gold, but I for one am hoping in a few weeks to read on my favorite A's blog about how cool it is that Kurt Suzuki is going to get a full share and ring no matter who wins the World Series.
