Carter platoon over

Lost in the demotion of Jemile Weeks, the acquisition of Stephen Drew and the ban of Bartolo Colon was this bit of news: The Carter/Moss platoon is officially over.

No one came out and said it. (Melvin has had other things to deal with.) but Carter started the last two games against right-handed pitchers. That's not news, you say, because Carter has played a lot against righties lately.

That's true, but it was because Seth Smith was on the disabled list, necessitating some musical chairs in the A's lineup. While Smith was out with his bad hammy, Moss was playing regularly against righties -- either in the outfield or as designated hitter, or spelling Carter at first who then shifted to DH.

But with Smith back in the lineup, Moss has been sitting against righties in favor of Carter.

This is a good thing. Carter has earned it and I'm glad he's playing every day. His numbers have been terrific overall and he's actually played better defensively than I thought he would. He has more home runs against right-handed pitchers than lefties and his on base percentage remains strong.
