In case you didn't see it, McCarthy tweeted this " "They put two guys on the 'Kiss Cam' tonight. What hilarity!! (by hilarity I mean offensive homophobia). Enough with this stupid trend." and followed it up with these comments here. You don't often see this level of enlightenment in Pro Sports, which, shall we say, at best, has had a somewhat ambivalent attitude to homophobia, and often much worse.
I decided to write to the only person I know on the A's - my ticket rep. He obviously can't influence policy, but he can share it up the chain:
This is what I wrote:
Hey {Sales Rep Name Deleted}:
There's been a lot of talk about the stand that Brandon McCarthy took about the Kiss Cam and his recent interview - http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2012/04/24/SP211O8C0K.DTL
With the recent suicides of gay teens across the country, MLB's "It Get's Better" campaign, and the fact that the Bay Area has often taken a lead against homophobia, I feel it's important that the A's management takes a clear stand. I think a large number of fans are awaiting a response
I know this is not probably in your control, but if you could forward to Billy Beane, I'd be grateful. Looking forward to a response from the management team.
Please let me know you've sent it on.
{My Name}
I think if others can pass on them wanting to see the A's management take a stand here, it can't hurt. I'll report back on what I hear, but if a number of people write, it will get noticed by someone in the Back Office who can do something about it.
