First the Mariners, then the Mariners, then Kansas City, and now the Mariners again. I'm starting to develop an aversion to the color blue.
The Questions (54 points)
1. Series Outcome (3 points)
2. The Human Drama of Athletic Competition
As you all remember, our Season Opener was an extra-inning loss to these very same Mariners. Do any of these games go into extra innings? Are any of these games tied through seven innings? Through five? Scoreless through three? (1 point each, 4 total)
3. Jemile and Dustin
Our talented young Second-Sacker and theirs had comparable slash lines last season. Jemile has more speed, while Mr. Ackley seems to have a bit more power. Predict each player's H/XBH/SB (2 points each) Is either player charged with an error (at any defensive position)? (1 point, 13 total)
4. The Lifetime Network
The M's have a couple of inspiring human-interest stories in the persons of Relievers Steve Delabar and Tom Wilhelmsen. Granted, Delabar's Elbow-Held-Together-With-Screws is a bit more compelling than Wilhelmsen setting aside the bong to go play some more baseball, but they both seem like good guys. I hope they get lit up like a pinball machine every time they pitch against the A's. Predict their combined IP/H/BB/K (2 points each) Do either of them allow a home run? (1 point, 9 total)
5. Demigod, The Cuban Missile
Cespedes still has a lot to prove this season, but I think we can all agree that he is quite capable of hitting Mariner pitching, thank you very much. Predict his PA/H/XBH/K for the series (2 points each) Does he hit another homer off the M's? (1 point, 9 total)
19 IP for A's Starters. 5 total HR for both teams. 4 total SB, both teams. 4 combined series errors. (2 points each, 8 total)
7. Strange, But Beautiful
An apt description of a couple of my ex-girlfriends, but right now I'm thinking of the pitching line Tommy Milone put up on Monday. Don't think we're going to see that particular set of numbers again. Predict Mr. Milone's IP/H/BB/K (2 points each, 8 total) In the unlikely event that Milone is scratched, the question applies to whoever starts for the A's on Saturday. Feel free to revise. If Milone's start is moved back to Sunday, the question still applies to Milone.
Answers due before the 1st pitch, Friday the 13th 7:10 PM West Coast Time. Good Luck!
