As a newly active member of this community, I wouldn't want to be seen as overstepping my bounds or anything, but I do have a proposal.
Do you realize that Fan Fest is still nearly three months off? That seems unacceptably distant to me. Looking at my calendar, I see that, falling neatly at the mid-way point between our beloved teams defeat at the hands of the cowardly Detroit Tigers and the scheduled fan fest on January 27th is the weekend of December 1st and 2nd.
Is there any interest in organizing a for-the-fans-by-the-fans get-together around that time?
The idea is about all I can contribute, as I lack any concrete ideas or a place for it to be held, but I am willing to assist as necessary if any of the more well-established members of the community would be interested in stepping forward and lending legitimacy to my humble dream.
Also, since this is my first fan-post, perhaps I ought to briefly introduce myself. I am a lifelong A's fan and a lifelong resident of Hayward. I've admittedly been bad about getting out to the coliseum to see games in recent years, but both my work and financial situations make it difficult. My screen-name was supposed to be ObscurePlayerReference, because I couldn't choose between FurmaniakOnTheFloor, MattMurtonForMVP, or any number of several references to players who had brief and unremarkable stints in Oakland. I've decided to let the misspelling in my screen-name stand as a testament to my own ineptitude while trying to be needlessly clever.
Thanks for reading, and I hope to see you all at the ballpark, or at fanfest, or elsewhere.
