So there are reports that the Yankees are willing to pay 90-95% of A-Rods contract in order to get him out. that would leave a team to pay him between 7 and 15 mill over the next 5 years. At between 2 and 3 WAR that represents good value, but there is always the chance he could pop out with a 4 or 5 WAR season and be a real steal at that price. On the other hand he could also continue to decline and post a WAR even lower than he did this year and not even represent fair value at 3 mill a season. The scariest part of him hypothetically coming to Oakland is that he could kill the great clubhouse feel that the A's have going on. The young players the A's have need good clubhouse guys around them and It's way more fun rooting for the A's when the players themselves are having fun. On the flip side however A-rod could likely still slip in to two of our need positions SS and 3B, and although his defense has declined he still represents an overall improvement on the left side of the infield. WAR wise he will likely be better value than whatever Swisher demands as a FA and he does cover more needed positions than Swish. Another question to consider is what we would have to give up to take A-rod, I can't imagine it would be very much as the Yankees are already willing to eat 90% of his contract they can't possibly expect a stud prospect in return, can they?
So my question is would you take A-rod at any price? and If you would, what would you be willing to pay him considering you'd be stuck paying him for 5 years. Lastly what would you give up prospect wise?
