Did we just sign Bartolo Colon?
mlbtraderumors.com is reporting (Colon) just signed with an unnamed team and is waiting for his physical (good luck with that one Bartolo) to name the team....If so and cheap, not a bad move by Beane. Just might also mean that Dallas is not going to be ready for the season opener - Colon could be really good in the A's uni and could provide a low level prospect at the trade deadline - he can still throw some gas

Guess we need a new fatso after DFAing Powell! Zing!
And Colon did frustrate the hell out of me last season, exposing our amazing offense. Well, let’s hope this is the move that lets us hit our “salary floor”
My thoughts exactly
I see this move from a making a trade at the deadline stand point for some prospect. But there are some better and younger ones out there for that. Hernandez, Penny (I hear nothing about him did he decide to retire or something?) or Oswalt.

Transparency Alert:
I just edited “Fatso” from the headline, and from the post, and replaced it with Bartolo Colon’s name.

I'm a little upset it wasn't edited to "Playfully Plump Bartolo Colon"
Surely that should be permissible

Fatso is more accurate
To be fair I love “Big Fat Bartolo Colon” and think he is a decent signing by the A’s.

I miss Bobby Cramer
Sisko: All right Niners, let's hear some chatter!
Kasidy: Hey batterbatterbatterbatterbatter!
Leeta: Hey batterbatterbatter! Batterbatterbatterbatter!
Worf: DEATH TO THE OPPOSITION!!!
I don't think he's on a major league roster, is he? We could probably pick him up.

He is probably a relief teacher

Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy
I’ll clear my calendar for October.
I don't care for the way Colon smells

Someone referred to Colon as Jabba the Hut last year which I found amusing.
Just think of the press conference after the A’s win the 2012 World Series: “Ohta su marvalic plesodoro” (Let them marvel at our splendor; Jabba’s favorite expression)

*too much star wars pal
but otherwise, quite clever.
When the Giants wanted an aging Cy Young winner
They got future HOFer Randy Johnson.
When the A’s wanted an aging Cy Young winner, they got Bartolo Colon.
Sigh.
You'd prefer Barry Zito?

Honestly,
Money issues aside, I wouldn’t mind watching Zito. After the horrendous 2008 season he settled into a groove of two solid years as a back-end inning-eater type workhorse. He’s actually exactly the sort of pitcher the A’s could use right now.
I’m still not convinced that Colon has truly beaten Father Time and that his improved fastball velocity will continue in 2012. If the heater fades for Colon, I could easily see Zito putting up the better season of the two.
And I still think trading the Giants trading Barry Zito to us in exchange for territorial rights and massive salary relief idea floated earlier this month is pure genius.
