Moneyball is authentic
It's been a long time since SABRmetric was a dirty word in baseball. Since people argued that Joe Carter and Juan Gonzalez were MVP caliber players, wins and rbis were what mattered most, and the A's were a crazy experiment.
But we were there. I may have moved far away, but tonight found me in a Fairfax, Virginia theater, wearing my A's cap and vintage 2001 Athletics Nation ringer (In Billy We Trust!). It's a magical movie. Utterly authentic, it reminds me why I love the game, love the A's, and love Billy Beane.
I want to quit my job, move back to the bay area, and buy me some season tickets. Anyone need a top notch Perl developer?
We may have never gotten that last out, but the Yankees and Red Sox do not have a movie this good.

I just saw it
I just saw it. It’s a very good movie with a good story (duh). I loved it.
But I’m not sure “authentic” is the word I’d choose. There are several factual errors, fabrications and truth stretches that folks here will easily spot. I’m perfectly ok with that. This is entertainment, not the history channel, and it makes it big points well.

Just saw it, too
And what you said.
There were some very funny lines and, even though it was a dialogue-driven movie, they used plenty of silent moments, which is good.

I thought the reverse
Too many silent spots and not enough laughs. Jonah Hill was hilarious, as always, and should have had a coupel more laughs. Washington in Hattebergs house: I knew it was coming and it still cracked me up. More like that would have made this movie better, in my opinion
the ringers shirt
I am wearing it right now and I am going to see moneyball tonight.

More authentic than Fever Pitch?
Haven’t actually seen either of these flicks yet. Just saying the Red Sox were gifted a major Hollywood movie for their 2004 run. But ours is about our GM, while theirs is a backdrop for a rom-com, so I think we still win.
Fever Pitch did an adequate job of capturing the agony and angst of being a Red Sox fan (or at least I thought so).
I wanted Boston to keep losing to the Yankees, year after year after year. But the baseball gods had other plans.
