Tonight should be an interesting game. After yesterday's near no-no's by each team, each by relatively unknowns, today's match up features two of the more well known variety. Cahill takes on Hamels and I, for one, am hoping for more offense this time around... on our side at least.
The A's are back to home in their original roots. One can only imagine what would have happened if the A's had stayed in Philly, and it is interesting that since their departure, they have never really found a true home. With the A's future uncertain, and a poised move to San Jose (or Oblivion and Beyond), this weekend's series will hold a lot of value to each of the "hometown" fans.
As an aside, for those visiting Philly, do not forget to visit the Philadelphia Athletics Historical Society, which should be quite a treat!

I’d rather have Jeremy Giambi setting the lineup and managing the bullpen. Wonder what that guy is up to? Teaching kids the fundamentals of the game probably.

We need to face it on Carter
He can’t play anywhere on the field and is a DH only player. I would like to see him PH sometime this game. With Matsui defense playable Carter could be up for a while if he can handle the DH slot.
his experience has mostly been at 1B
he was supposed to gain LF experience during winter ball but never went because of his injury. It seems weird to consign a young, athletic player to being a part time player (which is what a DH is), without at least giving him more time. I know that Kansas City eventually decided that Billy Butler couldn’t do much more than DH (although he does spot start at 1B). But they gave it enough time and effort before they made that decision.

what have they done with A’s baseball that we are sitting here “hoping” all the time, for stuff that never ever comes? Anyway I hope everyone enjoys the game, to the extent that Globetrotters vs. Generals can be enjoyable.

actually, I enjoyed last night's game
Pitchers’ duel, some terrific defensive plays on both sides taking away hits and runs. it sucks that the Phillies won, but I can’t really complain about the game.
I am optomistic
About the futures of weeks and sizemore and I like carters power potential but beyond that things are pretty cloudy offensively perhaps a trade could make the future look brighter on offense

Here's the main part of it
Apparently upset that Turner had made little effort to evade the Wednesday night pitch, Oakland right-hander Graham Godfrey hit Turner in the leg in his first at-bat in Thursday’s matinee. At least it was intentional in the eyes of many in the Mets clubhouse, with Turner among those in the minority, who were unsure if there was any motivation.
Still, the Mets did not seek to hit an Oakland batter in response. The players were apparently satisfied in letting the incident pass because Turner was hit in the leg — rather than a spot that might have made him susceptible to injury. They concluded there was a logical reason behind Oakland’s likely motivation, and responding would only have brought on ugliness such as Jose Reyes becoming a target.
That did not sit well with Wilpon, according to team sources, and he chided the team in the clubhouse afterward.

I'd love to have Hanley as our 2B or 1B.
He’s totally awful at SS, plus you are banking on him doing the NL-AL switch/Coli switch successfully, which few have proved to do.
OK but he'd be far and away our best player at any position. Any trade for him, even 5 for 1
would almost certainly be a good one.

That’d be a miracle if we landed him. I’d love it. But won’t happen. He is having a bad year, but is very very good., and plus, their GM is in love with him.

They got Hanley by dealing Josh Beckett and making Boston take Guillermo Mota and broken Mike Lowell.
They also got Anibal Sanchez in that deal.
Somehow they manage to have fire sales in which they shed salary AND get top prospects. It’s pretty awesome.

I went to a high school with 45 people in my graduating class I played baseball.

i did read it. i still dont think it was a called hit and run. its a stupid situation to call it in.
It was a 3-1 count.
It’s not a full count where you’re just putting the runner on motion.
The only other explanation is that Melvin was sending Ellis on a straight steal, which is just as dumb. The fact that Ellis got such a horrible jump, went anyway, and wasn’t running hard (as he didn’t even bother to slide because he was so far away by the time the fielder on second got to throw) indicates to me that he was expecting Crisp to put the ball in play.
In any case, Melvin made a huge mistake.

So, we got Outman v. Doc Halladay tomorrow
Maybe we can get lucky. Then, the Schedule eases up. 3 vs. Florida, with Gio, Godfrey, and Costco going; then 3 versus the Diamondbacks with Cahill, Outman, and GIo scheduled. Like I outlined before this current interleague schedule, we can get back into this thing. After playing the Diamondbacks we go home for 3 against the Mariners (and I hope that Harden will have taken Godfrey’s spot in the rotation by then), then finish off the 1st half of the season with 4 at Texas (maybe McCarthy back for this series). Those last 7 games before the break will decide our season.
