When he goes oh-fer next time, somebody must punch him in the face
Seriously though, it was around mid-June last year when he started owning California League. And now this surge. So is he now an established “notoriously slow starter” (I hate that expression).
We should promote that strategy in the A's clubhouse.

Then, he even said it on the managers’ show: Ziegler was out there until the game was over. I think he was just playing for the next game after the 12th. Which, in my mind, is defensible (though not the way I would have done it)

yup. no one will trade for a guy who hasnt played & his last playing time saw him sucking it up. give him a chance to build some value.
so you think ellis has value if he doesnt play?
im not saying i want ellis in there. all im saying is that he has to play at least a game or two & hope he gets some hits so that somebody might actually give us something for him. otherwise hes getting traded for shit.
getting hits in "a game or two"
isn’t the difference between ellis being traded for shit and ellis being traded for non shit

im not saying im right.
just my opinion on why hes playing. because i honestly cant think of any other reason for him to be out there and carter to be on the bench against a lefty
that may be what they are thinking
but it is as wrong as sacrificing in the second inning of a road game with your #5 hitter with Mark ellis coming up next.
Put a bird on it
in this case, "giving him a chance to build value" is hurting the team in the interim
as long as ellis is healthy, teams will want him
This, he is a known commodity. GM's around the league know what
there are going to get. That being said not sure Carter makes those plays anyway.
Yes.
1. He’s on the roster until we trade him.
2. Weeks has to keep playing 2B.
3. Ellis is a good guy who has been around a long time and we owe him some respect even if it isn’t the best move in terms of winning games.
I know some people will say #3 shouldn’t be a consideration, but I think that’s the real reason. It’s a gesture to a person who has earned something from past performance.

Dear Mr. Godfrey,
Throwing strikes and getting people out is better than not throwing strikes and not getting people out.
Thank you.
Godfrey's getting unlucky. The line drives aren't directly at fielders.

it probably would have made sense to flip DDJ and powell
only because if the 8 hitter gets on in this case, it’ll be tough to bunt him over

Speculation on MLBTR is cause his contract situation wasn't resolved
Riggleman, who was in the final year of his contract, told GM Mike Rizzo that he would resign if his contract situation wasn’t resolved, according to Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post
Didn't want to pick up his option and he wanted to stay
I might have done the same.
