C'mon A's....

1. Series Outcome (3 points) BoSox 2-1

3. Matsui & Barton PAs (/-1), Hs, BBs, and Ks. (2 points each, 8 points total) 21/4/3/4
4. Reliever w/ > 1 IP. ( 2 points). Reliever w/ ER (2 points). Total K’s for relievers (/- 1, 2 points)? Nobody (see question at bottom)/Fuentes/7

Saw the sawx when I pahhhked mah cahhh.

1. Series Outcome (3 points). I have a feeling… 2-1 A’s
2. Starz/goatz. Name an A’s pitcher and position player with a positive and negative fWPA for the entire series. (1 point each, 4 points total). Pitchers: Anderson , Outman -. Pos players: Willingham +, Ellis -
3. Un-benched? Hideki Matsui and Daric Barton sat for the final two games of the Yankees series. For the Red Sox series, predict their combined PAs (/-1), Hs, BBs, and Ks. (2 points each, 8 points total) 11, 2, 2, 4
4. Prilosec lasts, but you can always find seven packages of Rolaids lying around. The A’s are without an obvious long reliever since Andrew Bailey returned. Name a relief pitcher that goes for more than 1 IP. (“Nobody” counts as an answer, 2 points). Name an A’s relief pitcher that gives up an ER (2 points – again, “nobody” counts). How many total Ks for A’s relief pitchers (+/- 1 K, 2 points)? (6 points total). Breslow, Breslow. 7K’s total.
5. Shrek Returns. John Lackey, everyone’s favorite ogre, hasn’t fared so well this year, with an 8.01 ERA. On the other hand, he has owned the A’s for his career, with a 17-6 record and a 2.86 ERA. He performed well against the A’s in April, giving up 1 run in 6 IP, although he took the loss. He’s coming off the disabled list to pitch against the A’s on Sunday. Name his IP, Ks, and ER. (2 points each, 6 points total). 6, 6, 2
6. Nail-biters. For each game, predict whether Fangraphs Leverage Index is greater or less than 1.0. (1 point each, 3 points total) less/greater/greater
7. The Green Monster Looms. The series marks the A’s first visit to the doubles haven that is Fenway. How many two-baggers does each team hit (2 points)? A’s 5, Sox 4

Don't look at the absolute number, but where you fall between the highs and the lows.

This one was tough based on the high number of innings and the shocking number of hits. So far, the high is 11 and the low 4, with the rest falling with you at 8 or 9. No shame in that.

WPA question

If i’m trying to calculate a player’s WPA for a series, do I just add the WPA’s for each game? For example, during the NY series, Mark Ellis was -.081, -.002, and -.014.

So is that (-.081) + (-.002) + (-.014) = -0.097?

Post-Game #2 WPA Update

Following two (#6) Nailbiting (#1) Losses (aLI of 1.33 and 1.81), we head into the third game of the series, hoping to ward off a 6-game slide (and I’ll happily drop three points if only the A’s win). Here are the WPAs (#2) for the players so far.

Starz, Pitchers: Breslow (.031), Wuertz (.093), Devine (.109), Ziegler (.009), De Los Santos (.003)
Goatz, Pitchers: Outman (-.334), Fuentes (-.012), Moscoso, (-.187), Cahill (-.242), Bailey (-.279)

Starz, Position: Jackson (.436), Willingham (.122), Barton (.050), Pennington (.121), Sweeney (.249)
Goatz, Position: Matsui (-.489), DeJesus (-.243), Suzuki (-.061), Crisp (-.001), Ellis (-.107), Powell (-.269)
Neutral, Position: Kouz (.000)

In other news, Matsui & Barton (#3) have combined for 23 PA / 5 H / 2 BB / 4 K, and the A’s have 4 Doubles to the Bosox 10 (#7). Moscoso & Fuentes have picthed more than 1 Rolaids appearance (#4), and basically the whole staff with one Nooby exception and one nooby Dad – Devine, Wuertz, Ziegler, Bailey, Moscoso, & Breslow – gave up an Earned Run. They have 12 Ks combined.

This was a great GOG, PDXAthlecticsfan!

I do like doing the results, but I’m also happy to back off at any point, too. Some folks like to post their own. doctorK, for instance, but anyone else who wants, too. Just gimme a sign.

You have the green light from me whenever

I generally am able to put together the questions for weekend series, but keeping up with the answers over the weekend is near impossible with two kids under five.
