As you know I wrote an email message yesterday night to Ken Pries of the A's, to complain about the extremely short amount of time that Chris Townsend is given by the new flagship radio station for the post-game show. I just wanted to share that Ken responded this morning.
I was pleased that it wasn't a short, generically sounding reply, and that he responded so quickly. While I don't have permission to cut and paste directly his message, basically he mentioned that the A's put together this deal really quickly, and have not had time to iron out all the details. He reminded me that 95.7 FM has many country music fans that they do not want to lose by quickly eliminating so many hours of music programming.
That said, Ken said they know how important an A's talk show is, where fans can call in and express themselves. He said they are having discussions with management about the length of the postgame show and "CT's involvement in the station" (Hopefully there's no question about his continuing to be the A's pre and post-game host!), and stated that there will be more A's programming in the months to come
I also responded to his message. I thanked him for his swift response, and told him I'm rooting not only for the baseball team but also for the broadcast team! I put in a plug for CT's excellent work. (although I didn't put it in these terms in the message, I think the mass group therapy sessions and long rant and responses last season after games was absolutely fascinating, and way better than anything I've heard on "other" post-game baseball shows.)
I think it's very useful to continue to let Ken know (KPries@oaklandathletics.com) how much we A's fans support expanded A's programming on the A's flagship station.
