DLD 3-14-11: I Like Chips

When I was a lad there were basically two brands of chips:

Laura Scudder's

and

Granny Goose

I liked Laura Scudder's barbecue the best. I loved the sweet smoky smell when first opening the snack-sized bag I'd packed in my lunch for school.  A bad bag of barbecue chips were lightly colored chips that had virtually no seasoning except salt--but a good bag--a good bag was heaven. It meant most of the chips were a deep orange hue of flavor. I'd pull one out and lick it slowly to savor the tastes and read the ingredients listed on the back of the bag:  Potatoes, Vegetable Oil (contains One or More of the Following:  Corn, Sunflower, or Partially Hydrogenated Sunflower or Corn Oil), Salt, Dextrose, Onion Powder, Monosodium Glutamate, Garlic Powder, Torula Yeast, Paprika and Other Spices. I had no idea what Torula Yeast was. It sounded exotic, though. I figued that was what made them taste so good.

Nowadays I still like barbecue chips, namely Wavy Lay's, but a good old plain Lay's chip can still satisfy.
