you go out at night, eatin' cards
have lots of a's cards... love this set. 1982 granny goose. stadium giveaway. iirc, we were given incomplete set. i would go to baseball card shows around the bay to get the missing ones. white borders and simple design highlight our gorgeous unis and hats of the day. what makes this set unique, imho, is the paragraph and description on the back of each card about the '81 season.. we were the talk of the baseball world. billy on cover of time magazine...we had the best record in the league in '81. remember we won our first 11 of the year. beat kc 3-0 in first round. then, yanks beat us 3-0. still bums me. furthermore, rickey should have won mvp. and, mccatty cy young. who did win both? old friend rollie. whatever. enjoy.

Other than his rookie, of course... that's my favorite Rickey card.
I was so excited to get those cards at the Coliseum. I was ten and that’s when I was really falling in love with baseball and the A’s.
At one point in my life I liked Dave Kingman more than Rickey Henderson. I was stupid.
that is an awesome sig!

Thanks.
It was in 1984. I blame the home runs. My Dad still makes fun of me for liking Kong so much…

Great Blondie reference to fit the time frame of the players.
Seeing these players brought back memories of the very first season I saw the game played — back when I didn’t understand the game as a business [why Armas was traded for Lansford, for example]; thought starting pitchers were just supposed to finish their game even if they went to extra inning; and thought that stealing bases just good baseball.
Seeing the picture of Fred Stanley caused me to nearly laugh out loud as I recalled a intoxicated heckler get on his ass from the first base side after Stanley failed to do something or other [I can’t remember if it was fielding or batting related], “Hey, Stanley, we want to help you do things right!” The phrase “Stanley helps you do things right” was the tool company’s slogan used in their television/radio marketing campaign at the time.
