I cant see a fit
Montero and a low prospect? Montero is a Catcher and unless Suzuki leaves (no chance), Montero would need to DH (also, no chance).
The only way I could possibly see that happening is a 3 way trade. Something where the Yanks get Gio, the Royals get Montero, and Oakland gets Moustakes.
Either that or we take Montero, give him a year at AAA or bring him up if injuries occur, and also ask for Ivan Nova back as well so that our Starting rotation remains solid.
C'mon Beane! Close off the bottom deck and reopen the top!
I'm still concerned with Montero's ability to stay at Catcher
At the very best, I think he’s a full time DH in 3 years. Unless he can pick up 1B sooner than later. That bat is just too damn valuable to leave him at C anyway…

I agree I think a 3rd team would need to be in play
I just don’t see how it is worht the A’s while unless they get major league ready guys who can make an impact in 2011. I just don’t see that happening.

Montero could be the team's best hitter in a year. You have to find a place for that.

Just some writers pipedream
Yankees would not have what it takes to trade for him. And he is not turning expensive. I took the item to be nothing more than a proposed trade like I used to make as a kid, looking for the K.C. A’s to get Koufax or Drysdale before they were established stars. Not sure I was even a teenager yet at that time. LOL
Charlie Brown GO A'S WIN
I'd take Montero and a B- guy for him
I do believe they have what it takes, it’s more a matter of whether or not they will offer full value, which is something the Yankees rarely do.
I mean, don’t forget, it is truly a privilege to trade with the Greatest Sport Franchise in the History of Sports.

True, the Yankees should feel honored to do so

I agree
The Yankees may “want” Gio, but he’s so valuable to the A’s the price would be astronomical.
It would likely take something along the lines of AJ Burnette, Nick Swisher, and their top 4 prospects. The Yankees would never make the trade.
This is just the wet dream of some New York sports rumor monger who believes the rest on the MLB is a farm system for the Yankees.
who believes the rest on the MLB is a farm system for the Yankees.
Oh my god yes.
This.

But let's not just throw it out...
Gio and Suzuki for Montero their farm system.
Gio and Suzuki for Montero, Sanchez, Betances, Banuelos, Noesi, Heathcott and Nova?
Done!

I love how the media paints stories like this about the Yankees
It’s basically up to them to decide whether or not they “want” a player. If they don’t acquire him, they just simply don’t want him, it’s not a matter of the trade package or anything…
So ridiculous.

Agreed!
Thats what I loved about the Cliff Lee going to Philly. I think New York really felt as if the Rangers were a fly they needed to shoo away with millions of dollars. Then Philly stole him and they were like, how could someone not play here!?!

Does anyone else think that the Yankees would be the worst possible team for Gio?
He has struggled to stay level headed in Oakland. What happens when Gio arrives in New York and they hype him up as the Yankees second best pitcher, and he’s got reporters all over him throughout spring training and beyond. The pressure and expectations would be the highest he had ever encountered in baseball. I don’t want to say that Gio couldn’t do it because I do believe in him, but he’s got a history of those types of things bothering his pitches. If there was any team that could cause a regression in Gio’s pitching mentality it would be the Yankees.
And I don’t see this trade happening at all, the organizations don’t seem to have very compatible trade assets.
He's certainly been terrible against the Yankees

Agree with this. I can see the NYPost headline:
Crazy eyed Gio headed for mental institution. NY is the absolute worst media market for Gio.
TOO BAD! THEY CANT HAVE EM!
