Are stats overrated in baseball?

Each year baseball has become more stats driven and the eyeball test means less and less. While stats are a valuable tool I think the importances of them have taken away from players, teams and playing winning baseball. while a walk is nice a hit is much more important in certain circumstances. If there is a runner at second and two outs a walk is not nearly as important as a single. While the stats would give a successful rating for both outcomes in fact a walk just passes the buck to the next batter. A single will normally advance a base runner two bases while a walk will only advance him one base. The importance that stats play on the game encourages players to think about their own success instead of team goals. Teams are left behind because the importance of moving a runner our, laying down a bunt do not help players make a check.
