Jose Reyes signs with Marlins
According to Yahoo Sports. The Miami Marlins make the first big splash of Free Agency and signed Jose Reyes. This would leave the likes of me to mean that Hanley Ramirez is currently not in the team's plans. So this means we can get Stanton, Morrison, AND HanRam for Gio Gonzalez and Andrew Bailey right? right? In all sriousness, what is Hanley Ramirez's trade value at this point? Would you trade Gio straight up for him?

Much as I'd love to have Hanley Ramirez plopped onto my team,
in context he seems to me like exactly the kind of player the A’s would not be pursuing right now. He’s a player that you’d trade in order to get a package of premium minor league talent, whereas the A’s currently need to obtain premium minor league talent.
My guess, anyway, is that in signing Reyes the Marlins are aiming to be good sooner rather than later, and since Hanley isn’t the great defensive SS perhaps a position change is in the offing, not a trade. So he’ll probably be dealt tomorrow.

IMO, the best case scenario for Miami is Hanley agreeing to move to CF or 3B.
He’d be better than Bonifacio, whose 113 wRC+ was dependent on a high BABIP, and Dominguez, who is all-defense. There were rumblings a while ago that Hanley wasn’t happy about a position change. The same guy tweeted an hour ago that they have no intentions of trading him.
If Hanley does decide to throw a fit, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to check in on the possibility of a three-way deal. Miami might not have the prospects to acquire Gonzalez, but other teams who need shortstops do. The Cardinals and Braves need an established shortstop pretty badly and have the depth to make that deal. The Phillies, Brewers, and Giants also need one, but their farm systems might be bleaker than Miami’s. One of those teams will sign Jimmy Rollins and the rest could get desperate.
I would say it’s unlikely though. Very unlikely.
Unless it were to flip him
(ie, essentially a three-way trade, only delayed).

I would rather do a three-way trade.
I don’t want the A’s getting hamstrung with bad-Hanley. For one, his value has never been lower—but if the A’s acquire him and other teams balk at what Beane wants, he’d only be hampered by playing in a harsher stadium against slightly better competition. Teams know the A’s would only acquire him with intent to move him and I don’t like the idea of openly shopping players.
I know this: if this ever came to fruition, I would be licking my chops to rummage through St. Louis or Atlanta’s system.
Considering I'd probably piss myself in excitement,
if we got Stanton, Morrison, and Ramirez for Bailey and Gio….. I’m willing to say the Marlins probably won’t do that trade.

Ramirez will be moving to 3rd...
Is Matt Dominguez now available?
From everything I’ve read (it hasn’t been much) he’s ok with the bat but excellent with the glove.
sounds like every A's roster player
please give me a big bat.
It's just more exciting with Billy Beane running the team.
You mean so you can beat yourself senseless over our mediocre offense?

Woah...
C- Buck
1B- Sanchez
2B-
3B- Ramirez
SS- Reyes
LF- Morrison
CF-
RF- Stanton
That’s a helluva lineup.
Figured This Would Happen
Apparently, it’s a six year contract worth 106 million dollars. Some crazy money, which the A’s wouldn’t have come close to spending on Reyes. Seems Hanley will be moving to third, so he probably won’t be coming to Oakland, either. They won’t give up LoMo or Stanton, will they?
Needless to say, that’s a good lineup in Miami….
if they Marlins want Gio - they will need to pay throw the teeth
Gio is a freakin stud with total team control. Billy has every right to ask for the moon and more for Gio and seeing the Marlins pay millions for everyone this offseason, I still wouldn’t be shocked to see a package of
Gio to Marlins
Logan Morrison (they will have to give in if they want Gio)
Matt Dominguez
SP prospect.

The A's would need to be getting more than that in return for Beane to make that trade.
That isn’t a Haren-esque haul.
haha

Logan Morrison and Matt Dominguez are ready to play right now.
I just don’t understand why we would trade Gio for guys who are on roughly the same time table in terms of peak years and free agency. If we want young guys who can play right now … hell, Gio is a young guy who can play right now. The only reason to trade him is to invest in a longer future.
That said, if we are going for those guys, I kind of like Matt Dominguez. I’m considerably less impressed by Logan Morrison; I think he’s overrated, and I don’t see him as a good fit with the A’s organization.

Age.
Dominguez is 21, LoMo is 23, and Gio is 25 — but more importantly, Gio has 3 years of team control left, Dominguez and Lomo have 5.

Dominguez cant hit at all. How do you like a guy that is all glove and no bat?
Might as well keep Kouz.
So you like a guy that cant put up an 800 ops in AAA but not the one who has shown an ability to hit major league pitching. Albeit not very well but he is improving.
Care to elaborate why you like Dominguez? And why you dont like Morrison?
point is....is the Marlins want Gio
They will pay big time! Lets just hope its not the same package we got for Huddy!

I elaborated on Morrison in the other thread.
As for Dominguez, eh, it’s just a personal feeling. The universal disagreement I’m facing here makes me think I may need to reconsider him.
