Good for him
Considering his contract is for $10M / 2yr – should we have kept him?
I know we have plenty of unproven talent to fill in the OF slots but i think last year was an aberration.
It's just more exciting with Billy Beane running the team.
I don't think he really wanted to stay in a place where he had the worst season of his career.

considering the A's only offered him arbitration
while the Cubs offered him a guaranteed two year contract, it’s pretty obvious that he would accept their offer.
yes, but I just think even if the A's matched, why would he take it?
The A’s are in obvious rebuilding mode, the Cubs are in a win-now mentality with Epstein at the helm, and the fact is that he had a terrible season in Oakland, all the factors point to the Cubs as the logical choice. A 2 year 15 million offer would certainly make him think twice but that would be a gross overpay for a mediocre OF.

why wouldn't he?
I wouldn’t want to put words in his mouth. We have no idea how he felt, except that he was disappointed with his own performance, and he liked Melvin’s treating him as an everyday player, as opposed to Geren’s platooning him.
That's about market value given his production last year.
Since the team isn’t contending next year, I’m happy to have the pick and to see what Taylor can do, but it wouldn’t have been devastating if he accepted arbitration. I would’ve been OK with either outcome. I suppose this paves the way for the A’s to resign Coco, as has been rumored.

yes - good for him, indeed
DeJesus getting a 2 year deal with an option worth a guaranteed 10 mil is pretty amazing after last year and considering his injury history. That said, I imagine he’ll do really well at Wrigley, especially if they add a couple of impact bats around him in the lineup. I think Fielder signs with the cubs.
Is it?
He probably could have made that much for 1 year by accepting arbitration. He made 6 million last year in Arb, and arbitrators rarely go less than the previous year. Him signing somewhere else must mean he really didn’t think he could play well in Oakland. If it were the opposite, he would have done better by accepting arbitration, playing a year closer to his career numbers, then looking for a long term contract based on those numbers.
