Community Prospect List Fact Finding Tour
Hi Everybody!
The World Series has yet to be played, but the off season is already upon us. And when you think of the off season, what is it that you think about? Trades? Rosterbation? Free Agents?
Yeah, that too, but I was thinking about the Community Prospect List!
This year, the Community Prospect List aims to kick off in full swing in November, but before then, we need to figure out our list of contenders. Who was the most deserving prospect in the system, and who performed the best (least worst?), and so on and so forth.
So please, post the names of any and all prospects you feel qualify for the Community Prospect List's voting this year, and after the tally, we'll start it up.
Rules for Qualification are as per usual: The prospective player must qualify as a Rookie in 2012, as defined by MLB's ROY voting qualifications, minus the MLB service time requirement, as that is too difficult to track at a glance. The current qualification cut off is under 130 at bats or 50 innings.
Other Measures that need to be taken are to decide what format we will go with this year.
So please, in between listing the prospects you feel most worthy to be included, add the following commentary:
- How long should each round of voting be? Ex. 1 Day? 2 Days? 3 Days?
- How many players should be on each ballot? Ex. 3? 5? 10?
- Should there be a position prospect to pitching prospect ratio per vote?
- Should we hold three different votes, such as is done on minorleagueball.com, and hold a Position Player List, Pitching Prospect List, and Combined List vote? (see Sickle's website for examples).

1) At least 3 days for each poll.
2) I say 5-7 prospects would be an adequate amount of prospects for each poll.
3) I don’t think there needs to be a certain pitcher to hitter ratio. The best prospects are the best prospects. You wouldn’t have put hitters on the list when the big 3 were coming up.
4) This is completely up to you. It would be pretty cool, but it’s a lot more work and I wouldn’t do it if it was going to cause you any stress.
Wade Hines
and in case you missed him Michael Choice
I agree with this setup
Sonny Gray, Grant Green, Vicmal De La Cruz, Yordy Cabrera, Ian Krol, Max Stassi & Renato Nunez off the top of my head

Dude, how does Michael Choice not make that list?
A glaring omission

Michael Choice, but admittedly I haven't followed prospecting much this year
1) 5 days for the first 5 spots, 3 days for the next, then 1 day for the next 20.
2) 10 players on each ballot.
3) No ratio necessary.
4) Don’t mind either way; whatever is easier on you.

With 124 PAs, Chris Carter barely makes the cut.
Brandon Allen is well over, however (367 PAs), so he won’t qualify. Sogard and Miller are both still under 100 PAs, but I don’t know about the service time. On the pitching side, Godfrey, Norberto, FDLS, and Magnuson are all under 50 IP.
1. One day is definitely not enough. I prefer three, or at least two. I don’t always log in every two days.
2. Five or six seems like a good number to me, but I don’t think it has to stay constant. If someone is on the list who gets no votes then it’s too long, but on rounds where the voting is very dispersed it’s OK to have a longer list.
3. I don’t think that’s necessary per se, but it might happen naturally.
4. I prefer a single list.

My first reaction was "we have prospects?"
Upon further reflection I could think of Sonny Gray, Michael Choice, Chris Carter, Grant Green, Vicmal De La Cruz and Renato Nunez. There are probably others. I’m calmer now.

Best performer for me is Choice. Gray could battle him for No. 1 prospect.
1) I prefer 2-3 days. Not everyone logs in daily. Also it should be some time to get a good discussion about the players next to vote.
2) Start with 5 players per ballot. In later rounds you could add a sixth or even seventh player if it seems better, i.e. if more players should be added but not enough should be eliminated from the ballot list. Your decision.
3) I don’t think a ratio is necessairy
4) No seperate lists. It just adds posts without good discussions.
yesterday's AZ fall league game
Michael Choice homered in his third straight game Tuesday, but it wasn’t enough to top Bryce Harper.
The Harper-led Scottsdale Scorpions rallied to beat Choice’s Phoenix Desert Dogs, 11-10, in 10 innings in the Arizona Fall League.

Good to see MC is crushing the AZFL

Unless he's a monk who still plays baseball,
in which case that would be AWESOME.

As a starting point:
Here’s a good end of year writeup for developments in our minor league system, put together by Spass30:
September Minor League Update
For anyone following the names there,
Ethan Hollingsworth is gone. He’s the one we traded for Kila.

Along with everyone who's been mentioned,
I still like Aaron Shipman, and have some hope for Chad Lewis and Rashun Dixon. Also, the guys from the recent draft, like B.A. Vollmuth, Bobby Crocker, and Beau Taylor, who held his own in full season A ball after he signed. And the one high school guy that the A’s signed from the draft, Chris Bostick, who absolutely destroyed the AZL in his 14 games there (SSS, I know). Keith Law liked what he saw from Bostick in Instructs, but wasn’t impressed with Choice, for what it’s worth. Jermaine Mitchell probably falls in the 11-20 range as well.

In addition to the names above
I’m interested to see what the community opinion is on guys who weren’t previously highly regarded like Daniel Straily, AJ Griffin, and Ryan Ortiz.
As for the other stuff, I like a 2 or 3 day poll, 5 players on the ballot, and no position player to pitcher ratio. As for 3 separate lists, I’m all for it though i suspect that it will take a lot of work
Michael Choice.

Postponing the list until after the January Owners Meetings
Since MLB’s decision to allow the A’s to move will play a heavy role in how this list will turn out. It could mean an influx of new prospects (perhaps regardless) if the A’s have a fire sale, so I believe it is better to delay the list until the inevitable trades.
