GOG 46: Dry the Mariners!

The Mariners come to town over the end-of-summer holiday trying to rain on our ever-dimming playoff hopes.  Let's hope we hang three L's on them.

GOG 45

Star-divide

This GOG is worth 54 points

1. Series Outcome (3 points)

2. Obligatory WPA question (goatz only): Who are the worst and 2nd worst WPA goats on each team for any one game? (2 pts each, 8 total)

3. Doug “Barely Knew Her!” Fister faces us on Tuesday evening.  He is 3-1 with a 1.50 ERA against us this year.  Does his ERA rise or fall after his start Tuesday?  Give me his IP, TBF (+/- 2), and total pitches (+/- 5) (2 pts each, 8 total)

4. His opponent, Braden, is one start removed from heat cramps and two starts removed from a 120 pitch shutout in Texas.  Give me his BB/H/K for the game (2 points each, 6 total)

5. The A’s and Mariners are both considered to be powerless teams.  How many HRs are hit in the series?  Who hits more, the A’s or Mariners?  (2 pts each, 4 total)

6. Despite Kouz’s likely absence from the lineup for at least some of this series, the A’s still have some hacky players *cough* Rajai *coughcough*.  Which A’s player racks up the most strikeouts for the series? (3 pts)

7. CHOOONNNEE!!!  Our fist-shake inducing nemesis comes in as perhaps the least impressive FA signing for any team from the offseason.  Give me his PA/H/K/XBH this series. (2 pts each, 6 total)

8. 50 vs. 50.  Jamey Wright and Ross Wolf have opposing numbers.  They’re both in the bullpen.  For a short time, they were both with the A’s in some form.  Finally, they’re both used infrequently.  How many appearances do they make combined (zero is a possible guess)?  How many IP?  (2 pts each, 4 total)

9. Over/unders (all apply to the whole series): 4.5 SB for the A’s, 8.5 XBH for the A’s, 2.5 BB for Barton, 3.5 singles for Ichiro, 5.5 runs scored in any one game by either team, 3.5 K for Cust (1 pt each, 6 total)

10. Despite his less-than-pedestrian production (-0.5 WAR, .284 wOBA) this year, it always feels like Casey Kotchman hits well against us.  Give me his K/H/XBH against us.  (2 pts each, 6 total)

I was one off (but usually the other one off) on Figgins, too. Every one.

Nice job on the O/Us. Did you notice – praise be to cuppingmaster! – that he called each one at .5 away from the actual total (with the exception of the M’s 7th run, which they never should have had anyway). That’s probably the most awesome GOG-pick of the whole series, and he doesn’t even get points for it!

And if I may be honest, I copy-pasted your answers and made some select changes since I was in a rush. Does that disqualify me from future GOGs?

Not bad at all, especially considering that:

Nobody could possibly call Wright’s three appearances, or the crazy 7 HRs, and those WPA Goatz were not (Carson excepted?) the ones that quickly come to mind. Hell, who could have expected the hitters WPAs to be so consistently in the positive? This was the As and Ms, for cupping’s sake!
