If we did have a metric for Quality Of Contact, I think it's safe to say that Cahill's would be higher against the Yankees than against the rest of the league. You see, in two starts against New York, Cahill has posted an 0-2 record with a gaudy 12.60 ERA, while against teams with payrolls under $200million Trevor is at 14-4, 2.16 ERA.
Cahill is opposed this afternoon by Jered Weaver, whom the A's have roughed up this year (0-2, 6.00 ERA, 23 hits in 18 innings, including 3 HRs). Though it's a day game after a night game, the A's have scoured the spreadsheets and determined that they desperately need more foul popups, so Kurt Suzuki is in the lineup batting 3rd, joined by a band a 8 merry men that includes Jeff "I'm feeling a bit" Larish and Cliff Pennington, both of whom sat with a lefty on the mound yesterday. At least I assume Scott Kazmir is a lefty -- though if I were his pitching coach I might suggest he try the right hand, but whatever.
