Maybe it's our fault the A's are in 2nd place
According to this article, more fans in the seats means more wins, and the As would have 6 more wins with sellout attendance.

Really?
Fans go to games of teams that win generally(except the rays apparently) and don’t go if they suck. If the A’s were in first there would be higher attendance. If the the A’s had higher attendance that dosent mean they would be in first.
WTF GEREN?!?!?!

Yes.
When the A’s were fantastic in 2006 (beating Minnesota, getting sadly swept by Detroit), attendance was so bad that Oakland fans were regularly ridiculed on sports talk. I vividly remember Wilbon going on a vicious tirade about it, and at the time, it was true. I went to 23 games that year, (it was all I could afford) and it was pretty desolate and rough going for some of them. Of course it got better in the playoffs, but while winning does indeed translate to more butts in the seats, I don’t think it’s nearly as decisive as you’re coming across as thinking it is.
'Like' my band. I mean, it'd be awesome if you did that.

It's the fans that make the game fun. -- Rickey Henderson, July 26, 2009.
um...no
The A’s do not have much of an offense…the fact that they’re in second place is due largely to their pitching and defense…and the fact that they play much better at home (hmmmm…)
Good point, I'm not sure I believe the paper either
but it was interesting.
Carlos Gonzalez would look nice in one of the corner outfield spots right now
No, it's not our fault, but......
if people watching on tv see all those empty seats (as I do, since I live far away from Oakland), it’s disheartening to the faithful and predictable to the cynical. The truth is Oakland doesn’t care, both the people and the government, and it’s time to pack up and go elsewhere. The team is mediocre, agreed….but for a while there a little flame of hope flickered. Since that time, the A’s young arms have gotten tired (Gio and Cahill)—-they’ve pitched a lot of innings—- and the team has not be able to compete with the Rangers. I fear we won’t reach 80 wins this year, so we will be at the same level, give or take a few games, that we’ve been for the past four years. Gotta spend some money, gotta get a new stadium, maybe a new manager (although I think Geren has done a good job given the hand he has been dealt). The A’s deserve better than what they have been getting.

no, it's not "true that Oakland doesn't care"
it is true, however, that many fans have been turned off by a variety of issues that have been discussed here many, many times. Attendance has plunged in the past few years.
I live and work in Oakland, and have done so for the better part of 20 years.

Cahill's recent underperformance has nothing to do with a tired arm
It’s a couple of games of poor luck (partly) offsetting most of a season of great luck.
